Abigail Breslin

At the tender age of twelve, Abigail Breslin already boasts an impressive filmography, an Oscar nominated performance and a spot on the Forbe’s ‘Young Hollywood's Top-Earning Stars’ list.

We first met Abigail as an adorable five-year-old braving an Alien invasion in the blockbuster film Signs. "I don't know how I memorized my lines," she reminisced while promoting a recent film. "I was so young. I can barely remember them now."

The film grossed over four billion dollars internationally and launched a career that is going from strength to strength.

In 2008 Abigail starred in three films: The romantic comedy Definitely Maybe, the family adventure film; Nim’s Island and the first feature film adaption of an American Girl story Kim Kitteridge: An American Girl.

Abigail as Kim Kitteridge

Kim Kitteridge: An American Girl opens in theatres in limited release in the US this month and will expand to full release in July. The film centers on a young girl growing up during the depression who dreams of getting a story in her local paper. The American Girl company has devoted its entire business to celebrating the potential of girls ages 3 to 12. The franchise includes books, dolls and a collection of films, of which Kim Kitteridge is the latest. The films are clean, educational and inspiring for young girls.

Nim’s Island opened in April and is still in theatres in the states.

Like many children, Abigail adores animals; "I have two dogs, a cat and a turtle. I want more." Obviously working with animals in Nim’s Island was a thrill for Abigail who recently told People Magazine that if she’ not acting, would like to be a Veterinarian when she grows up.

Abigail, who earns a reported two million per film and receives an eleven dollar a week allowance, made a fair amount of money from co-star Gerard Butler. She charged him two dollars every time he swore on set. “I’d try to make deals, I’d try to get out of it, but she wouldn’t give me credit. It cost me like 60 or 70 bucks.” He revealed in an interview.

“He paid a lot. I asked him for twelve dollars, he gave me twenty, and then he was like, ‘Well now I have credit.’ But that’s not how it works. So I think he learned his lesson. We donated all the money to the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.” Abigail revealed.

Despite the negative affects on his wallet; Gerard and Abigail were good friends while filming the film. He recently told FilmStew.com that working with Abigail made him want to start his own family. “As I was filming with her, I thought, ‘Okay, I could have a kid like this. This makes me want to settle down and have kids.”

Co-star Jodie Foster, who was also a child star, raved about her while promoting the film. She told Comingsoon.Net; “Abigail is great. Because I was a child actor from the time I was three I do see bits and pieces of myself as a kid in her. She's got a great family that comes with her. She's very well adjusted and she likes to just get on with it and likes to just do her job and not dwell on the acting stuff. She has something that I don't have, or that I didn't have as a young person which is she has this kind of very strong access to her emotions. That's so easy for her and she's really just born to be an actress. I really didn't have that at her age and so it's fun for me to see that, to look at a kid and go, "Wow, that kid is born to be an actor."

Abigail’s dream role would be to play Helen Keller – a woman who has been an inspiration to many people since her birth in the nineteenth century. She was an author, activist and lecturer and the first deafblind person to graduate from college. “I read a biography of her – it was a short book but it she was just really interesting.” Abigail told People Magazine.

Despite some of the intense subjects featured in film’s Abigail has appeared in, her parents take care regarding what she’s exposed to. "My mom will read the script and then she'll tell me if I can read it or not.” She says she’s seen most of the film’s she’s appeared in, with the exception of the film Keane.

Up next for Abigail is the highly anticipated My Sister’s Keeper, a film based on the hit novel about a young girl who was conceived and born for to be a donor to her seriously ill older sister. Abigail recently replaced Elle Fanning for the role when she and her older sister Dakota dropped out.

Abigail also revealed a project she was working on that might not get the same critical acclaim as her films. “Right now I’m doing fractions at school.” For someone who has achieved such success and won so many hearts at such a young age, we’re sure this latest challenge will also be passed with flying colors!
