September Issue - Written by: Julie Goldberg
It’s the end of the year and it wouldn’t be without an end of the year bash! Too bad everything seems to go wrong in every way imaginable. The story goes through the lives of Beckett, an outcast whose home life affected her social life, Morrigan, with family and boyfriend troubles up the wazoo, Tommy, worrying about Morrigan’s said boyfriend, Brent, trying to protect his friend from heartbreak, Daniel, who is having some major attraction to someone new, Azize, dealing with an issue well above his age, Ryan, trying to do the right thing, Anthony, losing control with an inner war, Josh, facing betrayal, Max, testing out his luck, and Ashley, thrown into the middle of everything! Needless to say, it’s one hell of a night. Everyone is intermingled somehow, which makes for an interesting plot, as you delve into the lives of each character first hand. This novel gets you right from the start. Normally, a story will take the point of view from 2 characters at most. However, Tom Leveen pulled off a beautiful masterpiece with 11 different point of views. He crafted his characters and subject matter into a book that really hits home with a lot of people. From the very first line, to the very last, being hooked is inevitable. I cannot express how much I enjoyed this book! It takes on a lot of issues that a lot of teenagers face. As my 4 years of high school have just ended, I can definitely say Tom Leveen hit the nail on the head. But aside from the issues all these characters faced, what interests me the most is how each person’s story intertwined with one another. Whether it be small, big, or just mentioned, they all have a role in each other’s lives. I simply adore this book! And I hope you do too. So, pull yourself away from the chaos for a moment to read this fantastic novel! If you enjoy this book, you might also enjoy “Gimme A Call” by Sarah Mlynowski.
