The Jonas Brothers and Demi Lovato

Imagine getting the chance to spend your summer at a prestigious rock camp. The only way you can afford to attend is if you work in the kitchen with your mother. A famous teen band attends the camp and one of the members hears you singing and sets out to discover who you really are. Throughout your stay at this amazing camp, you make some great friends, are intimidated by other talented musicians, and are forced to live a double life as a camper and the cook’s daughter. This is the story of Mitchie Torres, played by Demi Lovato, in Disney Channel’s newest original movie, “Camp Rock.” During the soon-to-be-hit movie, Mitchie must learn how to face her fears and be herself.

We all remember the record-breaking film, “High School Musical,” which debuted to 7.7 million viewers and won numerous awards, including Outstanding Children’s Program and Outstanding Choreography in the 2006 Emmy Awards. “Camp Rock” is said to follow in “High School Musical’s” footsteps and be one of the most popular children’s movies this year. It’s set to air world-wide and have a large franchise with a book series, activity books, DVDs, a soundtrack, and a calendar.

Although “Camp Rock” hasn’t even made its debut, the premiere of its trailer brought along three fan sites, which is absolutely outstanding. The movie stars the well-known Jonas Brothers, as well as newcomer Demi Lovato, Alyson Stoner (Cheaper by the Dozen), Anna Maria Perez de Tagle (from Disney’s “Hannah Montana”), Meaghan Jette Martin, Jasmine Richards, as well as a cameo appearance by Brenda Song ("The Suite life of Zach and Cody").

The soundtrack, which will be released on June 17, will feature 12 original songs. According to Amazon.com, the soundtrack is already the 17th most popular Disney CD and the 25th most popular movie soundtrack. Songs include ‘We Rock,’ ‘Play My Music,’ ‘Gotta Find You,’ ‘Start the Party,’ ‘Who Will I be,’ ‘This is Me,’ ‘Hasta la Vista,’ ‘Here I Am,’ ‘Too Cool,’ ‘Our Time is Here,’ ‘2 Stars,’ and ‘What it Takes.’ The DVD on the other hand, will be released on August 19 and it is said to have many bonus features including sing-along and karaoke functions, a gallery, music videos, behind the scenes features, and features on Demi Lovato and the Jonas Brothers.

The cast performing 'We Rock' in the film

The “Camp Rock” cast has all said how close they became during filming, and they are basically a family. “One night we had a dance party. We made up cheesy dances and we were running around outside,” said Demi Lovato when asked about the most fun night on the “Camp Rock” set. Kevin Jonas also once mentioned a dance party. “Nick played music on his iPod dock and we had a dance party with the whole cast,” he said. Anna Maria Perez de Tagle said the funniest moment on set was when “Joe was supposed to yell at Demi but he kept laughing instead.”

We spoke with Meaghan Martin in March. She revealed playing her character, Tess, was a challenge as it required acting so cruelly toward her friends."It was hard to be mean to everybody because I love the cast so much! In one scene, I’m working with Demi Lovato, and I have to make her character cry! I felt so bad! "

All eyes are on Demi Lovato.

Even though the Jonas Brothers are huge, it seems like Demi Lovato has been the talk of the town lately. After attending Disney Channel’s 2008 upfront in April, everyone is saying that Demi is the “Next Big Thing.”

Born on August 20, 1992, Demetria Devonne Lovato got her start on the popular children’s television show, “Barney and Friends.” She later made a guest appearance on the series “Just Jordan" and is slated to appear in the new season of “Prison Break”. Demi snagged her first leading role as Charlotte on Disney Channel’s short series, “As the Bell Rings.”

Recently, Demi has signed a contract with Hollywood Records. Her reprise of ‘That’s How You Know’ from Disney’s “Enchanted” will be featured on Disney Mania 6, and her debut album will be released fall 2008. Besides “Camp Rock,” Demi’s upcoming appearances include Disney Channel’s “Sketch Pad,” “Princess Protection Program,” and the 2008 Disney Channel Games.

What’s next for the “Camp Rock” crew? Besides going on tours and making various television and movie appearances, rumor has it that “Camp Rock 2” will begin filming shortly after the original movie’s June 20 premiere.
