Laura Bell Bundy

Laura performing at the ACMs

Laura Bell Bundy was born in Kentucky on April 10th, 1981. She is an actress, singer, and dancer. She was nine years old when she made her stage debut in theater. She played the role of Tina Denmark in the musical Ruthless! The Musical.

In 2002, she played Amber Von Tussle in Hairspray. She played Elle Woods from 2007 to 2008 on Broadway in Legally Blonde: The Musical. She received her first Tony Award nomination for Best Leading Actress in a Musical.

Other than being on Broadway, Laura Bell Bundy has a few acting credits to her name. She was in a few movies, and played parts on a few television shows.

At eighteen, she moved to New York and formed a country duo with her roommate, Amber Rhodes. They wrote and performed songs in clubs in New York.

In 2009, Bundy reprised her role as Elle Woods from January to February when the actress who played Elle was injured.

Laura Bell Bundy’s debut country album is titled Achin’ and Shakin’. It was released April 13th, 2010, and since then has reached number five on the country music album charts and number twenty-eight on the Billboard 200 in the US.

She says her album has two parts: the Achin’ part, and the Shakin’ part. Achin’ is a collection of slow and sultry country songs, while Shakin’ is sassy songs that emit humor, confidence, an attitude. Bundy wrote all of the songs, except one, on her debut album.

Her first single, “Giddy on Up,” debuted at number sixty in late February of 2010. Since then, the single has reached number thirty-one on the Country charts. The music video for the single was directed by Shane Drake, and showcases Bundy’s dance moves. The song is a fun, grooving song.

She performed the song at the 2010 ACM Awards, where she danced on the same stage as some of country music’s biggest stars.

Laura Bell Bundy is now up for Female Video of the Year and Breakthrough Video of the Year for “Giddy on Up” at the 2010 CMT Awards.
