Everything I Need To Know I Learned From The Goonies
By Amanda (23, USA)

The Goonies introduced a lovable cast of misfits to a whole generation of kids, and it's been introducing them to subsequent generations ever since. And it's because The Goonies is just one of those films that everyone can enjoy. It's got a little something for the adults, a little something for the kids, and a whole lot for everyone in between. Not only is it a fun family film, but it's got a few lessons it can teach us as well, some silly, some serious.

What I Learned About Law Breakers

The creepy people that live in the abandoned restaurant? They really are that creepy and you should stay away.
If you can't avoid them, remember to check the walk in freezer for suspicious containers before you eat anything.
You should pay attention when the news highlights criminals on the run. You never know when you could run into one of them.
Chocolate is a fantastic peace maker.
The boy who cried wolf really will have to deal with that eventually.
A blender can substitute as a lie detector, or an interrogator.
Hide your small valuables in your marble bag. The bad guys never check there.

What I Learned About Searching For Adventure

When boredom sets in and all else fails, go on a treasure hunt.
Important messages can be hidden in the backs of old picture frames.
When going on an adventure, it would be smart to replace your glasses with contacts.
Piano lessons really can pay off.
Sometimes rocks are put in place for a reason.
Make sure to keep your candles separate from your dynamite.
Slick shoes can save lives.
Never tangle with an octopus.
It's always helpful to learn a new language.
When it's your time, take your chance.

What I Learned About Relationships

The “Truffle Shuffle” can always be used as a bargaining chip.
You should never tie your brother up with his exercise equipment. It will only make him angry.
Having a nickname like Mouth or Chunk isn't usually a compliment from your friends.
Just because someone is different doesn't mean that they are evil.
Don't grab someone in the dark and kiss them. You never know who you could end up with.
If you want to keep your dignity, never ride “Troy's Bucket.”
True friends will walk the plank for you.

The cast reunited in 2009 for Empire Magazine's 20th Anniversary

And, of course, a real Goonie never says die.
