Fab Five - Portrait Magazine, June 2010 Issue

I love reading fashion magazines but one of the things I hate is how when they put together outfits, it usually costs several hundred dollars. Money I don’t have. Even the supposed “cheap” outfits are too expensive for most people. Plus it tends to create one outfit and that’s it. I can’t really do much with a leopard print dress, even if I wish it was actually versatile. So for this article, we take 5 articles of clothing and show you five different outfits created out of those five pieces of clothing. The entire cost is $150. I use accessories through some of the outfits and include those separately from the clothing pieces. Even those though don’t cost more than $50 total.

This month’s Fab Five consist of a red sun dress from Forever 21, a long sleeve black tee from www.dorothyperkins.com, a cropped cardigan from The Gap, skinny jeans and a vest from www.ae.com and heels from www.buckle.com. I know that’s 6 things but I got it all under $150 so I figured shoes could be a fun bonus. The jewelry this month is a mixture from Forever 21 and www.asos.com.

The Five Pieces

Outfit 1: Think of this one as adding a little dazzle for a dinner date. It’s fun but still subdued.

Outfit 2 screams concert wear. If you feel you need a shirt, wear a thin tank under the vest and get ready to rock!

Nothing says summer like a picnic outfit. For those with colder weather, the jeans keep a little warmth.

Outfit 4 is a great option for a wedding reception or slightly more formal party.

Outfit 5 knows that even summer evenings get cool and winter months need bright colors. This outfit combines the best of both worlds.
