Fashion Spotlight:
Mary-Kate and Ashley – Trendsetters or just trend don’ts?
Ever since Mary-Kate and Ashley left their days of being Michelle Tanner for Full House behind, they’ve been known for their style. Girls look up to them for fashion advice, and even dress like them. This resulted in the twins creating a line of clothing. The two actresses have accomplished so much in the world of style, including raising questions over some of their outfits. After all of these years, we find ourselves asking: are the Olsen twins really trendsetters?
Mary-Kate: Trendsetter
Mary-Kate’s satin, black dress may look a little long in the arms, however, the black belt that cinches the waist is a nice touch. It helps show off Mary-Kate’s figure and makes sure the dress doesn’t swallow her form. Mary-Kate’s outfit wouldn’t be anything special if it weren’t for her heels. The heeled, black sandals help Mary-Kate’s look not be drab. The fun jewels keep the black dress from being plain. Mary-Kate’s loose, wavy hair helps keep the outfit appropriate for promoting her and her sister’s line of clothing, Elizabeth and James.
Ashley: Trend Don’t
While Mary-Kate looks trendy at the event, Ashley’s outfit is the opposite. The sweater is slightly oversized and does nothing for Ashley’s figure. Paired with the white shorts, she looks like she’s ready to go to the supermarket or hang out at home all day. The gold, studded sandals help improve the look a bit, but they look too dressy for the casual outfit. Ashley looks underdressed compared to her sister.
Mary-Kate: Trend Don’t
We all know Mary-Kate is a big fan of the bohemian-chic look. In this outfit, though, we get the feeling that Mary-Kate’s taken the look too far. While on the beach, she sports a long, black and copper-ish skirt. The outfit isn’t something you would usually find on the beach. Her hat with the small veil is another negative. The hat doesn’t even match the outfit very well. All together, the outfit is an “I-would-never-wear-that” kind of outfit.
Ashley: Trendsetter
Back in April, Ashley attended a luncheon with her sister in New York. Ashley redeemed herself as a trendsetter in a classic little black dress. The dress had a v-neck top and a slightly oversized top. She paired the dress with a great pair of cutout black heels and a black clutch. She looked both professional and fashionable.

Hint and Tip of the Week:
When you think your outfit is plain (like Mary-Kate’s black dress), try livening it up with some color or fun accessories. If you’re wearing a solid black dress, try a different colored belt. If, for example, you have a pair of white pants and a black top, try red heels. Use color to make a splash in your wardrobe. Jeweled accessories help your outfits look fabulous, as well.
