Top 10 Glee Season One Performances
As Voted By You!
Written by: Katy (Age 22, England)

It's official, I am a big old Gleek! Last Fall we were introduced to the best new show of the decade. Set around the Glee Club at McKinley High, the show follows a group of kids, each different from the next, but with one common love - Glee. That's Glee, simple, but oh so effective.

The show has had many great episodes, with many great dance numbers. Over the season the cast covered over 100 amazing tracks for the show, but you have somehow managed to get all that down to a top 10. Althought my favourites are not in the top 10, (Jessie's Girl and Like a Prayer), there are still some pretty amazing songs in there. so, enjoy!

10 - Any Way You Want It / Lovin' Touchin' Squeezin'

Glee club decided to head back to what it knew best, by heading to regionals with a whole set list containing songs from the band Journey. My favourite of the set, and your number 10, is there mash up of two tracks.

The songs from the episode all featured on one album, with that album hitting the top spot of the Billboard 200. The original track by Journey, "Any Way You Want It", also did well, charting on the Billboard Hot 100 at #23.

9 - Can't Fight This Feeling

From last episode to first, "Can't Fight This Feeling" is the track that introduce us to wonder that is, Finn Hudson. The song was fitting for both character and actor, as Cory Monteith sang that track as his audition piece.

The power ballad reach number 1 in 1985 for REO Speedwagon, and is said to be about a man falling in love with a girl whom he's been friends with for a long time. The same can't be said for the way the show plays it. It could be looking at the fate between Rachel and Finn, but I think it's more to do with Finn's love of music, and his realisation, that he does want to be in Glee.

8 - Don't Stop Believin' (Regionals Version)

Back to the last episode, with an old favourite getting a regionals twist. To celebrate the bonding they have done as a group over the season, there signature track, "Don't Stop Believin"', with Artie, Mercades, Tina, Kurt, Santana and Puck all adding there own touches.

By featuring the new vocals on the track, it shows that the group finally realise just were they belong, together in Glee, and produce a united front. Head to 4 minutes 16 seconds on the vid, or enjoy the whole of the regionals performance.

7 - Hello / Bohemian Rhapsody (joint)

In joint seventh place are 2 very different tracks, but feature the lovely turn trayter, Jesse St.James. The first "Hello", is taken from the first episode back after the mid season break. It is our introduction to the character of Jesse, played by Jonathan Groff, who seduces Rachel with his flawless vocals. The songs line, "Is it me your looking for", really sums up there relationship, as they both strive to be the best at everything, and they find that in each other. The track was orinally performed by Lionel Richie, and had a very icon video. The track reached went to number 1 in the US and the UK, and is considered his signature track.

"Bohemian Rhapsody" features Jesse again, when he defects back to Vocal Adrenaline for Regionals. The performance features alborate coreography, and in turn gives them the win. The original track by Queen, was seen as groundbreaking, toping the UK, and Canadian charts, and reached number 2 in the US. The song is seem as ground breaking due to the compostion, and because it's promotional video is seen as the first proper use of a music video.

6 - Bad Romance

The cast went GaGa in the episode Theatricality, with 2 of the singers tracks featured. The use of Lady GaGa in the episode is to show that the group are different, but there all the better for it, or as they call themselves, "Freaks". "Bad Romance" sees the cast dress up in some elborate costume, include a Rachel Berry number with her collection of stuffed animals.

The original track by Lady G, came from her release debut "The Fame Monster", and did extremly well for the singer, hitting the top spot on no less than 21 charts! The track, written about being in love with a best friend, features a very elborate video. The song was also featured on anothe US season, featuring the star herself singing it, in teen hit drama, Gossip Girl.

5 - Don't Rain On My Parade

The group took to Sectionals before the mid season break, with the plan to sing there signature track, "Don't Stop Believin", and the Mercedes leas ballad "And I'm Telling You I'm Not Going". And true to form, everything got totally messed up thanks to one Miss Sue Slyvester! The songs title really says it all, with the Glee club effectively sticking on to Sue. The glorious Rachel lead ballad, kicked off there eventual win in style!

The track is taken from the musical "Funny Girl", and was peformed by Barbra Streisand, a Rachel Berry in the making. Both share similarities, one big one being there fantastic voices.

4 - Total Eclipse Of The Heart

Episode 17, saw the group get there own Bad Reputation. Trying to gain popularity, Rachel casts Puck, Finn, and Jesse as the male lead in her video for her track "Run Joey Run". Her outcome turns out to be that non of the three want anything to do with her anymore.

The original song was sang by Bonnie Tyler, and reach number 1 in the UK. It really describes well how Rachel is feeling. As feeling so good, she ends up falling apart over on stupid mistake. Lea Michele show great vocals on the track. The Glee version reached number 9 in the UK, due to it's popularity in the UK, having been voted one of the best UK number 1's of all time.

3 - Somebody To Love

Episode 5 of season1 brought April Rhodes into our lives, as it did with the track, "Somebody To Love". The number see Rachel reunite with the Glee club, after her time as the lead in the school play, wasn't all it was cracked up to be. So Rachel rejoined the group, which she was destined to be in to begin with.

The track, which was said to be one of the best performances since "Don't Stop Believin'", went to number 28 in the US. It is the second track by Queen to feature in our top ten. For them the track charted at number 2 in the UK and number 13 in the US. The song is really relatable for everyone, who wouldn't want to find love!

2 - Rose's Turn

In the episode "Laryngitis", Kurt begins to get jealous at the amount of time his father is spending with Finn. Turning into the Kurt he believes his father always wanted, Kurt dones some plaid, and makes out with Brittany. When that solves nothing, Kurt belts out this fabulous number, broadway style, and his father tells him he loves him.

The original song comes from the musical, Gyspy. The song fits perfectally with Kurt's story, with Kurt, like Rose, wondering why he changed himself, because it got him nowhere. Kurt wants people to accept him for who he is, and personally, I think the real Kurt is much better than the lumberjack Kurt!

1 - Don't Stop Believin'

And of course, at number 1, it had to be the ultimate Glee song. Don't Stop Believin introduced us all to the fabulous show that is Glee. The song is really a great message about the show, telling you to never give up, and always believe.

The song was originall sung by 80's rock group Journey, and was very successful for them back then, and even more so last year, when the song rentered the charts, due to it success in Glee. The Glee version of the track proved the more successful chart wise, peaking at number 4 on the Billboard Hot 100, and at number 2 in the UK singles charts.

The song is ultimatly going to be the track that never goes away for Glee, it's signature, and lets hope we get to here it in seasons to come.
