I recently discovered my great grandmother’s old cookbook. Worn with age, with browning pages, running ink and at least one seared burn to the cover from an oven element, the book is an absolute treasure trove of family and professional recipes. Below is one of my favorites. You really must try it, it’s fabulous!

Moist Chocolate Cake

Ingredients:
4 Ozs Butter
1 Cup Sugar
2 tablespoons Golden Syrup
1 Egg
1 Cup Milk
2 Cups Flour
1 Teaspoon Baking Powder
2 Tablespoons Cocoa
1 Teaspoon Baking Soda

Method:
Cream butter, sugar and golden syrup then add in egg and beat well. Boil half the cup of milk and dissolve cocoa in it, add to mix then fold in dry ingredients. Add Vanilla and salt. Dissolve baking soda in 2nd half cup of milk and stir into batter.

Bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes.

ENJOY!
