Hannah Montana
Miley Stewart is your average 14-year-old girl. She attends Junior High, has best friends, a crazy older brother and a cool dad. But Miley has one big secret. By night she is Hannah Montana the biggest thing in pop music. She keeps her identity secret at school so she can have the best of both worlds: being an anonymous teen with privacy and a popstar.
Miley Stewart is played by Miley Cyrus who stars in the show with her real life father - country music star Billy Ray Cyrus. The same formula has worked well for Nickelodean's 'Romeo' which stars teen rapper 'Lil Romeo and his father Master P. Hannah also stars Emily Osment - younger sybling of acclaimed child star Hayley Joel Osment - as Lilly Truscott Miley's best friend who knows her secret and has her own secret identity - Lola Luftnagle Hannah Montana's best friend.
The series premiered on March 24th after 'High School Musical' - Disney Channel's record breaking hit movie (the most watched film in the channels 23 year history). Hannah debuted with 5.4 million viewers and since then has been averaging 3.5 million viewers ranging between the ages of 6 - 14. Hannah resultingly, is currently the most popular show among tweens on basic cable television.
It's not hard to draw comparisons to Lizzie Mcguire in the Hannah Montana series. Popstar Hannah looks and even sounda like a carbon copy of Hilary Duff yet somehow I personally can't find the appeal of Lizzie Mcguire in the Hannah Montanna series. Hannah reminds me more of Nickelodean's Zoey 101 with a younger kind of humor that is less appealing to older teens (I am 19 and definitely not in the target audience for this series). Current hit Disney Channel show 'The Suite life of Zach and Cody' is a superior series at this point. However, it's early days for Hannah which is bound to improve and increase it's strong fanbase.
