Update Your Room in 7 Easy Steps!
By Kim
Ready to turn your bedroom from drab to fab? Parents won't let you bust out that paint roller and apply a new shade? There's more to updating a slumber pad than just painting. Take these 7 steps to make your shack into your suite.
Step 1: Too Much is... Too Much!
Ever heard of the term “less is more”? Well in bedroom talk, it is a law. The bedroom is a place for slumber, a place to rest and relax when the day has your head spinning. Too much clutter leads to stress. As hard as this may be, it's time to get rid of some “memorabilia” from the elementary school days. Keeping a few reminders here and there is fine, but flooding your walls and closet space with stacked up pictures is no good. Take down a few posters while you’re at it. Sure, Pete Wentz is a hottie, but there's no need for 12 large posters of him. Keep up one or two and throw the rest away or make a scrapbook with them.

Step 2: Freshen Up
There's nothing better than using the old and making it look like new. Your dresser may look like something your grandma should have, but use a couple bucks and get new hardware. This is an easy fix and can make a piece look brand new! Search through your home and see if there's furniture or accessories that would fit nicely. That vase stashed in the cupboards would make the perfect statement in your chic room.
Step 3: Rearrange
This may seem obvious, but one of the biggest steps in updating a room is rearranging the furniture. Don't just put the same layout on the opposite wall... really switch it up! Doing this may take a lot of time and attempts, but the end result will be worth it. Try many different layouts before choosing the best and most practical. Grab a sibling who is strong to help you. It will get the job done faster and give you valuable family bonding.

Step 4: Organize and Revitalize
Sort your books, sort your CDs, and sort your clothes. Not only does this make it easier when you are trying to find that first Harry Potter book, but it makes your room look put together. By having your clothes put away in the right spots and having a system will prevent you from tossing it all over the floor. Grab a few boxes to sort unwanted items into. Sell these items so you can buy more accessories for your pad. Freeing up space will not only make your room look great, but your pocket will feel great with the extra cash.

Step 5: Picture This
The best way to display your love for your friends and cat is to take pictures of them and show them off in your room. Take your digital camera and snap pictures for days. Print the best five out in black & white, which goes with any bedroom style, and frame them. Use black or white frames if your room is colorful and use a red, yellow, or another bright color if your room is dull. This will give you the right balance of color and make your sleeping chambers look stunning. Arrange them on a focal wall to give the eye some interest or display them on a shelf. The possibilities are endless and the decision is solely yours!
Step 6: YOUR room, YOUR love
The most important thing to realize is that this is your room! Not your best friends, boyfriends, or cousins. Therefore, you should show off your passions in life. Play a mean guitar solo? Display your acoustic and electric throughout. Amazing actress? Put up some old movie posters to give your room a Hollywood flare. Love to travel? Gather your souvenirs and place them in a common area. The only person you have to please in this mini-makeover is yourself. So show yourself off!
Step 7: Clean Up
Yes, it's a drag. But it has to be done. Dust, take out trash, put everything in it's rightful place. Once you are finished you will see how much your room really shines when it is taken care of. Now, unfortunately, this step isn't a one time thing.... in order for your room to stay super chic, it needs to stay super clean. If you don't keep up with it, it's just going to end up in the same rut it was in before. Take pride in your work! Show it off like it's a summer blockbuster! And of course... take all the credit for it and enjoy the sound of everyone saying “Wow... your room looks a
