Jojo: 'The High Road' to Success
Written by: Suey

Jojo

Born on the outskirts of Boston, Massachusetts. Jojo (Full name: Joanna 'Jojo' Levesque) grew up in a home filled with song. She imitated her mother's incredible range as well as the sounds that breezed through the family's home stereo: Ella Fitzgerald, Aretha Franklin, Whitney Houston and Etta James. "When I was two years old, I would sing nursery rhymes. I would do riffs on them and make them jazzy," Jojo remembers. It was at this early age that she taught herself to interpret the pop and blues tunes she heard with her own distinctive and unique style.

Jojo jump started her career as a singing, acting sensation in the past couple of years with her teen movies such as Aquamarine also starring Sara Paxton and Emma Roberts, and R.V, not to mention her debut album ‘Jojo’ which went platinum in 2004 going on to sell more than 1.3 million units, its surely a success like this that makes her the teen sensation she is.

In fact, when Jojo's debut single 'Leave (Get out)' went to number 1 in the states she became the youngest woman to ever have a number 1 single.

Jojo’s follow up to her massive debut is ‘The High Road’ an album she hopes will “show people what I’m really made of”. Having a different sound to the first record, working with new producers and showing just how talented the 15 year old is, this album shows Jojo growing up vocally, but also professionally and personally.

"I'm really focused on this album, because I spent nine months making it. I don't want to just throw it out there and let it be. I want to take time to do movies, and I want to take time to do music — but I want to take time to do them separately."

Jojo is also spending her time getting a new band together on the hope of going on tour showing the world that she’s “here for the long run, and not some flash in the pan.”

Known on her debut as ‘A singer. A songwriter. A prodigy’ Jojo has not changed the label describing her showing she still has a lot to write about in her teen years. “I've been through a lot in these last three years. I've written about it [all] and it's definitely coming across in the music."

The first single of the new album ‘Too little, too late’ shows Jojo’s vocal strength as she hits some Mariah-esque notes, proving her talent is beyond her years, and has also proved itself to Jojo’s massive fan base as the single jumped a massive 63 places on the Hot 100 Chart on Billboard making it the biggest number jump on the Hot 100 chart’s history!

Some may say Jojo's songs are beyond the years of a 15 year old but her music strikes the perfect balance between attitude and innocence - which is exactly what Jojo is all about.

Jojo's new album 'The High Road' is in stores now and features the single 'Too Little, Too Late', the new single 'Anything' and tracks like 'High Road', 'Exceptional' and 'Note To God'.
