Born November 23rd, 1992 13-year-old Miley Cyrus is Disney Channel's newest star. The Tennessee born teen whose real name is Destiny (she earnt the nickname Miley from her father who would always call her 'Smiley' which inventially turned into Miley) is the daughter of popular country music star Billy Ray Cyrus (Known for his hit song 'Achey Breaky Heart').

Both Miley and Billy Ray star on Hannah Montana, Disney Channels newest hit show which Portrait profiled in our May Issue (Read the article in our archives: Here). On the show Miley plays Miley Stewart. By day Miley is your average girl in Junior High but by night she's Hannah Montanna, one of America's biggest teen pop acts, determined to have 'the best of both worlds' Miley keeps her famous identity a secret from everyone but her family and closest friends when she moves from Tennessee to Malibu. Billy Ray Cyrus plays Miley's father, Emily Osment (young sister of former child star Hayley Joel Osment) plays her best friend Lilly, Mitchel Musso plays her friend Oliver and Jason Earles plays big brother Jackson.

Hannah Montana is currently nearing the end of it's first season on the Disney Channel and has already spawned a popular book Series, Buena Vista Games will release a Hannah Montana game in October a soundtrack will be released on October 24th featuring Hannah's songs from the show (which are really performed by real life Miley who has inherited her father's talent and even wrote some of the songs) and Miley will soon go into the studio to record her own solo album, independent of the Hannah character. Miley is signed to Hollywood Records (the same label as Hilary Duff, Aly and AJ and Jesse McCartney) and has a four album contract.

It's been a whirlwind ride for Miley since Hannah Montana debuted on Disney Channel in March (right after the first screening of the phenomenally popular High School Musical), in it's first airing Hannah Montana pulled in 5.4 million and has since averaged 3.5 per episode. Though Miley auditioned for the role of Miley/Hannah when she was eleven it's only in recent months that's she been propelled into Instant Stardom. "I'm so excited" Miley recently told Popstar magazine "It's my chance to become a role model. I grew up in a small town and my dream is now a reality" she's aware that some of her fans are kind of shy about approaching her and says "I've had fans who are really intimidated to come up and talk to me. I just want them to know that I'm totally open and there to be their friend."

Dispite all the hullabaloo Miley is managing to stay grounded. She recently did a photoshoot for Teen Magazine during which she was quoted as saying "I don't always go for clothes that are the most expensive. It doesn't matter how little something costs. I [recently] got $6 shoes and was like, 'Yeah!'"

Many fans are referring to Miley as the new Hilary Duff who was launched to stardom with her Disney Channel Show Lizzie Mcguire. Miley actually lists Hilary as one of her musical influences along with Kelly Clarkson and Ashlee Simpson.

Miley is currently on tour with fellow Disney Stars The Cheetah Girls and will continuing touring through till November.
