A Blast from the Past

So this months article is having a blast from the past. While researching this month, I had the sudden urge to do something a little different and then I thought ‘Well why don’t I write about bands I grew up with?’ So the list below are of bands that have been around for years but don’t get enough credit for it. So just sit back, relax and think back.

Greenday
Even though Greenday haven’t actually split up and are still mentioned in a lot of different types of media, I just couldn’t help but mention these legends. Forming in 1987, they have released 7 studio albums, the most recent being American Idiot. There is talk of another album being released sometime this year although a title or a release date is yet unknown. The bands three members, Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt and Tré, have also worked on over projects including being members of a number of different bands, have worked with a number of charities and also appeared in last years box hit “The Simpson’s Movie’.

No Doubt
Even though they have been on hiatus for the last four years, like Greenday, No Doubt are actually bringing out a new album next year. Consisting of Gwen Stefani, Tom Dumont, Tony Kanal, Adrian Young. They joined in 1986 though they weren’t as popular at that time due to certain music movements and labels. Saying this, peoples attitudes changed towards them as after they released their second album, ‘Tragic Kingdom’ and since then have got nominated/won many awards including two Grammy awards for the singles ‘Hey Baby’ and ‘Underneath it all’ and also a nomination for Pop Performance by a Duo or Group With Vocal.

Wheatus
These guys are most probably best known for their hit, “Teenage Dirtbag,” which was released in 2000 which was also featured in a movie called “Loser”. 1995 was the year that they formed and after 4 years of playing they were signed by Kevin Patrick at Columbia Records. After many band member replacements, the band now consists of Brendan B. Brown, Kevin Garcia, Liz Brown, Gerard Hoffmann, Matt Milligan and Missy Heselton. Although their second album didn’t go as well as the first, because Brendan had some some disagreements with their label because he refused to lip sync on Top Of The Pops, which was a popular music show in the UK but ended in 2006. Due to this, the album received very little promotion in the UK and was never released in the USA. At the moment they are working on a new album and in October are starting are touring in the UK.

Bowling For Soup
These comedians released their first album in 1995, a year after the band was formed in Texas. Since then the group, which consists of Jaret Reddick, Erik Chandler, Chris Burney and Gary Wiseman, have in total released 10 albums (including their first and an EP) and 14 singles. They are most known for their songs “1985”, “Girl All The Bad Guys Want!, and “High School Never Ends”. They also sing the theme tune to Disney Channels’s “Phineas and Ferb” and performed a song for the up and coming video game called “Sonic Unleased.” There is a rumour that there was suppose to be an new album released in the spring of this year but nothing was confirmed and it hasn’t been released, so keep your eyes open. Plus they are playing shows around the US in September.

Blink-182
The pop punk trio from California. Blink-182 are the only group on the list that have actually gone their separate ways. It’s did consist of Tom DeLonge, Mark Hoppus and Travis Barker but the band split in 2005 after DeLonge left, making a show in Dublin, Ireland their last together as a band. The reason for the split was because of a number of tensions between the band members. Since the split all three have joined separate bands, Delonge joined Angels & Airwaves while Hoppus and Barker formed +44. Even though both bands have been considered quite popular they haven’t and might never reach Blink-182 fame.
