Hear That? August Music Releases
By Melissa (Age 24, USA)

We’ve got some upcoming artists you’ll want to watch out for this month. Check back later for reviews of the albums.

August 4th, 2009:

Gloriana: Gloriana

Gloriana is a new country band. The group did well with their first single “Wild at Heart” . The song is a lively number, great for driving around with the top down. The band’s debut album should do well, in large part due to the publicity they’ve gained by opening on Taylor Swift’s sold out Fearless Tour.

Modest Mouse: No One’s First and You’re Next.

The new Modest Mouse release has eight tracks of unreleased tracks and B sides from earlier singles. A great addition for a fan’s library. For the idly curious, the track “King Rat’s video was directed by the late Heath Ledger.

August 11th, 2009:

Cobra Starship: Hot Mess

The band that never takes itself seriously is back with a new album. The first single, “Good Girls Go Bad” featuring a not half bad Leighton Meester has already done well. I’m looking forward to the song “Pete Wentz is the Only Reason We’re Famous.”

___________

August 18th, 2009:

Lil Wayne: Rebirth
The seventh album from the rapper will be his first rock album. The first single “Prom Queen” hit #15 on the Billboard charts. Much of the album was worked on with Fall Out Boy, proving that Cobra Starship may have a point with their song title. Early test runs haven’t been too positive so it will be interesting to see how the album pans out.

___________

August 25th, 2009:

Arctic Monkeys: Humbug
The fantastically brilliant Arctic Monkeys return with their highly anticipated third album. The first single, “Crying Lightning” is amazing, absolutely amazing. Yes, I’m a fan, how could you tell? If you aren’t you should be. Download the song this instant and prepare to be amazed by the British wonder. Oh yeah, they’re refreshingly dark, so if you’re strictly Disney style, you may want to steer clear. Or broaden your horizons.

___________

Colbie Caillat: Breakthrough
The second album from the female sensation who brought us Bubbly drops this month. The artist has said this album represents breaking through insecurities and living life to the fullest. The first single, Falling For You, released at the end of June and is a great song. This is one of the must have albums of the summer.

___________

Imogen Heap: Ellipse
The third album from the artist who arguable gained much mainstream fame for her contribution to the first Narnia film is a curious one. The talented songwriter has had a number of difficulties releasing the album, so that it’s now four years since her last album. Early reports from fans are loving the debut single, First Train Home. Interestingly, when a copy given to a journalist showed up on eBay, Heap’s fans bid quickly, driving the price into tens of millions to insure it wouldn’t be purchased before the official release date.
