Hear That? October Music Releases
By Melissa (Age 24, USA)

I’m trying something new this month. Instead of selecting a few artists, I’m putting as many as I can find into the Hear That list so we can be the source for new music. Plus, like the movie release column, I’m picking a couple favorites of the week. I’m basing this on fan interest, creativity, and of course, my own personal opinion. Have an artist you’d like me to keep updates on? Twitter www.twitter.com/musicportrait . I’m going to do my best to keep updates coming on new releases, signings, tour dates, and more. A lot of bands announce release dates after we send the issue out and you deserve the latest news! Don’t forget, the main site for Portrait updates with brand new music videos and songs as well so check back during the month!

October 6th:

Backstreet Boys: This is Us

Despite losing Kevin Richardson before the last album, the Backstreet Boys still hold a familiar comfortable sound. The smooth harmonies have trademarked the group over the years. The latest album should fit that same vein.

Toby Keith: American Ride

The country singer with more attitude than half the American south has a new album. Expect the same attitude, disrespect, and loud opinions as usual. All to some catchy lyrics and melodies.

Lights: The Listening

Lights is Valerie Poxleitner, a Canadian girl who won over a large fanbase by playing the Warped Tour this year. The Listening isn’t overly amazing but Lights has a good sound and definite potential.

Brandi Carlile: Give Up the Ghost

The folk singer from Washington has won over legions of fans by touring relentlessly. Her songs have been played on Grey’s Anatomy and loved by critics. This could be the album that moves her into the mainstream.

Tokio Hotel: Humanoid

The German band that took teen girls by storm two years ago finally releases the long awaited sophomore album. After many delays, the band has their new album. The fan girls have been going crazy for this new release. Its bound to be a big hit.

Luke Bryan: Doin' My Thing

As a country singer, Luke hasn’t reached the levels of Tim, Brad, and Toby. But he does have a nice laidback sound. A good ol country boy. Hopefully this second album brings him more success.

Relient K: Forget and Not Slow Down

The Christian punk band has been releasing records for the last 10 years. In recent years, they’ve lost a little of the tongue and cheek style that made them famous. Judging by the title, this album isn’t changing that.

October 13th::

David Archuleta: Christmas from the Heart

It seems a little early for the American Idol runner up to be releasing a Christmas album. Not because its October but because he’s only had one album released. The Archies (fans of David) will probably push a decent amount of sales.

Michael Buble: Crazy Love

The fantastic jazz singer finally gives us a new album. Personally, seeing as his ex girlfriend, Emily Blunt, is now engaged to John Krasinski, I’m hoping for some great breakup songs.

Shakira: She Wolf

The Latino songstress releases her newest English album. Shakira has quite the appeal and with her first single already flying up the charts, this should be a hit.

___________

October 20th:

Tim McGraw: Southern Voice

One of the current kings of country, Tim McGraw has gained plenty of fans thanks to his inspiring songs. He’s been more reflective in recent years, a trait that continues on this album.

Twilight New Moon Soundtrack

Paramore was the standout band on the Twilight soundtrack the first time around. With their departure, its another band’s chance to wow the Twi-hards. Early rumours are guessing Death Cab for Cutie’s contribution will be the big hit.

October 27th:

Creed: Full Circle

Sometimes its hard to tell a difference between bands like Creed, Nickelback, and Daughtry. But they fit a certain genre. Without competition, Creed could do decently with this album. If they’d stayed in the public eye over the last year.

Pink Martini: Splendor in the Grass

It’s hard to describe the sound of Pink Martini. Just know they’re fantastic.

Tegan And Sara: Sainthood

The girl duo are great artists whose music has won over fans around the world. This album should win many more.

Taylor Swift: Fearless Deluxe Edition

Taylor’s deluxe edition rereleases her Fearless album along with six new songs. There are other video bonus features and tour featurettes. It would be nice to get a full album but these six songs should be enough to tide Taylor’s fans over a while longer.
