The nomininations are out for the 76th annual Academy Awards with Brokeback Mountain leading the pack with 8 nomiantions and Crash, Memoirs of a Geisha and Good Night, and Good Luck each in second with six nominations! We bring you the complete list of nominees as well as our (* = Kat, # = Laura O) favorites for the golden statue in the bigger categories!

BEST MOTION PICTURE OF THE YEAR

  • Brokeback Mountain#
  • Capote
  • Crash*
  • Good Night, And Good Luck.
  • Munich

*My pick for this category is undoubtedly 'Crash'. The film combines such an array of characters and great performances and comes up with a heartwarming and unforgettable story. Definitely should win in this category. My second choice would be either Good Night, And good luck or Munich.

#How much you wanna bet that Brokeback Mountain is gonna win? Ok, I won't bet anything, but not only do I think that Brokeback Mountain is gonna win, I really want it to win. I really want to see, but hey, my mom wouldn't even let me see Wedding Crashers!
Here's a theory. You wanna know why Walk the Line and Cinderella Man weren't nominated? It has been only a year after the phenomenons Ray and Million Dollar Baby won the Oscars.

    ACHIEVEMENT IN DIRECTING

  • Ang Lee - Brokeback Mountain #
  • Bennett Miller - Capote
  • Paul Haggis - Crash*
  • George Clooney - Good Night, And Good Luck.
  • Steven Spielberg - Munich

*Crash would probably be my pick here too, otherwise Steven Spielberg.

    # I am really surprised that Peter Jackson for his film King Kong was not nominated. But next is Ang Lee for Brokeback Mountain. He has been picking up many awards this season.

PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTOR IN A LEADING ROLE

  • Philip Seymour Hoffman - Capote
  • Terrence Howard - Hustle & Flow
  • Heath Ledger - Brokeback Mountain
  • Joaquin Phoenix - Walk the Line*
  • David Strathairn - Good Night, And Good Luck.

*Wow, Heath Ledger has come a long way since 10 things I hate about you, however he'd probably remain my second choice. First would have to go to Joaquin Phoenix.

#You guys know how much I want Joaquin Phoenix to win this. But I know this award is going to either Heath Ledger for his performance as Ennis in Brokeback Mountain, or Phillip Seymour Hoffman for his role of the author Capote.

PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTRESS IN A LEADING ROLE

  • Judi Dench - Mrs. Henderson Presents
  • Felicity Huffman - TransAmerica
  • Keira Knightley - Pride & Prejudice*
  • Charlize Theron - North Country
  • Reese Witherspoon - Walk the Line#

*I'm so excited that Keira and Pride and Prejudice got nominated this year! She's definitely my favorite for this category though I'm not positive she's the most deserving for the award. I'm rooting for either her or Charlize or Reese.

#It's gonna be a close one, either Reese Witherspoon or Felicity Huffman. If any of you have been watching the other award shows (Critic's Choice Awards, Screen Actors Guild Awards, etc), you know it will probably be Reese Witherspoon who has been gathering up so many awards.

PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTOR IN A SUPPORTING ROLE

  • George Clooney - Syriana
  • Matt Dillon - Crash*
  • Paul Giamatti - Cinderella Man
  • Jake Gyllenhaal - Brokeback Mountain#
  • William Hurt - A History of Violence

*I think I'll have to go with Matt Dillon here. His performance in Crash was extremely convincing.

    # Here's another thing to go on Jake Gyllenhaal's resume, Oscar nominee! Yes, that's right! Jake Gyllenhaal has been nominated! Unfortanely, the award will probably go to George Clooney or Paul Giamatti for their roles in Syriana and Cinderella Man.

PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTRESS IN A SUPPORTING ROLE

  • Amy Adams - Junebug
  • Catherine Keener - Capote
  • Frances McDormand - North Country
  • Rachel Weisz - The Constant Gardener*
  • Michelle Williams - Brokeback Mountain#

*I'll go with Rachel Weisz in this category.

    # If A History of Violence's Maria Bello was nominated, I would probably say her. But I think Michelle Williams will win, although the Golden Globes shock can leave this race wide open.

    ADAPTED SCREENPLAY

  • Larry McMurtry & Diana Ossana - Brokeback Mountain
  • Dan Futterman - Capote
  • Jeffrey Caine - The Constant Gardener

  • George Clooney & Grant Heslov - Good Night, And Good Luck.
