Party Themes:
Halloween Party!

By Rosina (Age: 17, England)

This month’s theme:
Halloween party

Can anyone honestly tell me they don't like the 80's? Okay, maybe some of you could bring up the shoulder pads and bad hair, but let's just brush those aside and focus on the good parts of the 80's! I know I can't be the only fan of the era because lately there seems to have been an 80's explosion! From fashion to music, it definitely seems to have made a mark, so why not take it a step further and have an 80's themed party?

INVITATIONS
If you don't want to put too much thought into it, how about just making some simple collage invitations by gathering photos of 80's themed items, such as leggings and eye liner, and sticking them all together on to your invite. A fun, but more time-consuming and expensive option, is to record the invitation onto a cassette to give your guests a blast from the past.

DECORATIONS
When I think of the 80's, I think of bright colours, so buy a lot of bright decorations such as streamers and balloons to scatter around. Create a more authentic retro feel by putting up posters of films and bands from the 80's.

WHAT TO WEAR
This all depends on how adventurous you are. If you want to keep it simple, ask everyone to wear general 80's attire. Think leggings, baggy neon t-shirts, crazy hair...you know the drill. But if you want to make it more exciting, you could assign each guest (or they could choose themselves) an 80's icon to come as, for example, Madonna or Adam Ant.

FOOD
Nothing too thrilling here, I'm afraid. Basic, tasty party food should be on the menu. If there are chips, mini sausage rolls, hot dogs etc, then your guests are sure to be happy.

ACTIVITIES

1. How about playing some 80's trivia games to find out who knows most about the classic era? Then give Trivia Pursuit Totally 80's a whirl. You can it buy it from amazon here

2. Most of us enjoy a good game of Karaoke, and with so many great 80's songs out there, it's the perfect opportunity to sing your heart out. If you have a Playstation 2 or 3, I'd recommend playing Singstar 80's, giving you the chance to sing along with such hits as 'Heart of Glass' by Blondie and 'The Final Countdown' by Europe. You can buy it from Amazon here

3. Now you've got your voice warmed up, I think it's time you move your body too. Blast out your favourite 80's tunes and everyone can dance the night away. If (like me), you still love good old-fashioned party games, then musical statues is always a popular choice. You can choose whether to make your own mix cd or playlist of music, or to buy a compilation album. I'd say go with the first option, seeing as it's free and every song is guaranteed to be a winner.

4. If all that singing and dancing has tired you out, I suggest dimming the lights, getting out the popcorn and putting on a classic 80's movie. There are a bunch to choose from, so head over to your local video store and pick up one or two.
