“A great song should lift your heart, warm the soul, and make you feel good”

-Colbie Caillat

Colbie Caillat

I started off this month article with a quote by Colbie Caillat (rhymes with ballet). One thing about Caillat is that her songs actually do lift your heart, warm the soul, and just make you feel good. Every time I listen to Bubbly, I want to jump up and dance like a fool!

Caillat was born May 28, 1985 in Newbury Park, California. She inspired to be a singer when she was 11 years old when she heard “Killing Me Softly” remake by the Fugees in 1996. She learned to play the piano at a young age and didn’t start playing the guitar till she was 19 years old.

Her rise to stardom began on her Myspace.com profile. Her song “Bubbly” has been played more than forty-six million times on Myspace.com. The song soon became available on iTunes Store.

She recorded a duet with Jason Mraz in May. In the same month, she recorded “Kiss the Girl” from the Disney movie The Little Mermaid for Disneymania 6. In August 2008, she released a song just for the Beijing Olympics entitled Somethin’ Special. Caillat also did another duet with Taylor Swift, an up and coming country singer, called Breathe.

In October 2008, Midnight Bottle was included in a soundtrack for a Brazilian soap opera Tręs Irmăs. Despite not being released as a single, it has already hit #40 on Brazilan charts. Then between October 11 and 14, Caillat went to Brazil to shoot some scenes for the soap opera. It’s unknown if the song will have a music video or be released worldwide.
