"I just like to laugh so I hope to make people laugh too." Says 19-year-old Amanda Bynes while doing an interview on the set of her new teen film 'She's the Man'. The film is Bynes second starring role in a feature film, her last being the 2003 release 'What a girl wants'.
Much like the 1998 smash hit '10 things I hate about you'; She's the man is a modern teen adaption of a Shakespearian play: Twelfth Night. Since starring in '10 things I hate about you' Heath Ledger has gone on to star in numerous succesful films and this year was nominated for a Best Lead Actor at the 2006 Academy Awards. Fans are hoping 'She's the Man' will ultimately lead to similar success for Amanda whom also got close to a nomination at this years Oscars. Her film 'Robots' in which she lends a voice to a lead character was considered for a Best Animated Film Oscar nomination.
Amanda has applied to attend New York University in 2006. Popular with fellow celebs the University is currently educating fellow teen stars Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen (Though Mary-Kate is currently on a hiatus) and Lindsay Lohan has also expressed an interest in attending. Don't go thinking that's Amanda's reason for attending, "I don't really relate to that many people who are my age, especially in this business." she said recently.
Attending college will spell the end of Amanda's long running sitcom 'What I like about you' currently in it's 4th season on the WB (soon to be the CW). Amanda said recently she believes four season is a good run and that its time to pursue something else.
In 2004 Amanda shot 'Lovewrecked'. "This project is a great vehicle for a teen star, and the concept and comedy will appeal to all ages. This project is a wonderful addition to our current slate of high profile feature films" Said Media 8 Vice Chairman of the Board Sammy Lee. The film is a teen comedy about a girl who gets shipwrecked on a deserted island with her favorite rockstars - only to find and keep secret that a resort lies on the other site of the Island. The film was supposed to be released in teh summer of '05 but newling company Media 8 was unable to launch it at that point.
In February the Weinstein company, makers of the smash hit 'Hoodwinked' brought distribution rights to the film in North America. A release date is expected to be set sometime over the summer, following the momentum of 'She's the Man'. "Looks like it will be out this summer!" said co-producer Lance Bass upon the news of the film being picked up.
While fellow starlets such as Lindsay Lohan and Paris Hilton can't seem to stay out of the tabloids and are followed by rumors of excessive partying, drinking and drug abuse Amanda is determined to stay grounded. "I'm not perfect by any means. I like having fun and letting my hair down, too, but that's not what I want to be known for. I feel truly fortunate that the paparazzi are not the least bit interested in me." She's even gone so far as to shun a desire for a big celebrity career, "I don't want to be a celebrity. I don't want to be a big movie star. I mean, it's exciting when you get to do a fun photo shoot and have very talented makeup artists paint you and make you look different. But it's unfulfilling to have the goal of wanting to be a movie star."
Amanda's 'She's the Man' costars had nothing but good things to say about their movie's star:

"Amanda's Awesome. Shes' really down to earth and she's really funny and fun, goofy and crazy" - Robert Hoffman (She's the Man)

"She's really sweet. She's a really, really sweet funny girl" - Alex Breckenridge (She's the Man)

"Amanda's great. Amanda's hysterical" - Jonathon Sadowski (She's the Man)

"She's just hysterical either way. Whether she's a guy or a girl" - Channing Tatum (She's the Man)
With her 20th birthday next month, a college education in the near future and two feature films about to hit the big screen Amanda is set for an exciting new stage in her career.
