Last time we heard from Shia labeouf he was turning twenty-one. Not only was Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull about to begin production but he was taking Hollywood by storm. Now he's twenty-two and has gained attention not only for his acting but the occurrences in his personal life. From a rumored relationship with Rihanna to his November 2007 arrest it appears Shia is here to stay. No longer is he a new comer but he is now in the elite of young Hollywood.

Back in November of 2007 Shia was arrested after refusing to leave a Walgreen's. By refusing to leave the premises after being asked, his presence became trespassing. The charges were later dropped. In February of 2008 he received a ticket for unlawful smoking during filming for his movie Transformers: Revenge of the fallen. On July 27th, 2008 Shia was in a car crash which left him with a severely crushed hand that needed surgery. With a lot of speculation surrounding that crash (Shia was found to be over the legal blood alcohol limit) the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department two days later announced that the car crash was not his fault but the fault of the other driver who had ran a red light. Now all eyes are on Shia and the highly anticipated sequel to Transformers which is still filming. Currently he is under medical supervision and could be out for a month. Not only that, he also is still facing possible DUI charges. Despite all the hype Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen is still set to be released in June 2009. Costar Josh Duhamel recently commented on Shia’s injury telling HollyScoop.com, "He is at his best. Shia is doing just fine. He's doing great." Friend Isabel Lucas has also stated that his "hand is healing well."

The poster for Eagle Eye

Shia has certainly been busy. He has four movies coming up. First up is Eagle Eye directed by DJ Caruso. The release date is said to be September 26th, 2008. In the film Shia plays Jerry Shaw. Jerry and his mother (Michelle Monaghan) are pawns in a plot for political assassination and must outwit the woman who is behind it all before she kills them both.

  • New York, I love you is set to release in 2009 is a collection of love stories set in New York City. He will be playing a character named Jacob. Other actors in the movie include Blake Lively, Natalie Portman, Christina Ricci, Hayden Christensen and various others.

  • For the much anticipated Transformers: Revenge of the fallen Shia’s real life hand injury will be incorporated into the story. As for the story, rumor is Shia’s character Sam will be attending college and after meeting Alien Robots he is majoring in astronomy. Mikaela (Megan Fox) can't afford to attend.
  • Death and me is a film adaptation of the miniseries “Death: The High Cost of Living”. All that is known is that Shia might play lead role Sexton. Release and filming dates have not been set.
  • Dark Fields is based on Alan Glynn's 2002 novel of the same name. The premise of the movie would be a young man who manages to get his hands on a super pill and the events that follow it.

In June last year rumors surfaced that Shia and R&B singer Rihanna were an item. He addressed the rumors by saying: “My friends were like, 'Are you serious, bro? Are you *bleep* kidding me? Why didn't you tell me about that?' I was like, 'I really don't know her like that.' For weeks they were singing that 'Umbrella' song everywhere I walked. And those are my people.”

Since May Shia is said to be dating model Lauren Hastings, but lately he has been seen hanging out with his Transformers 2 costar, Australian actress Isabel Lucas (Who was recently dating Adrian Grenier from “Entourage”). She was the passenger in his car crash in July. Shia has said that he has been in love with every one of his female co-stars, including Megan Fox (I wonder about Christy Carlson Romano from his Disney days). He also has gone on record and said that when he was a teenager he paid his father 800 dollars a week to spend time with him on the set of Even Stevens.

Shia is also getting a lot of attention for his comments in an interview for the September issue of Details Magazine. In which he said “I don’t know how to do it like a gentleman. I don’t know how to have one drink.” He also discussed what he believes to be the difference between being celebrity and an artist. “Being a celebrity is rubbish. If you’re doing films just for that, you’re in the wrong business. Just go on a reality TV show and wear hot pants to an awards show and you’re a celebrity. Acting is an art form. It’s not just me trying to be some celebrity.”

We are all wondering what is going to happen next, but we’ll just have to wait and see. Something tells me whatever it is people will be watching. By the sounds of his movies coming up it is obvious why, Shia is too good of an actor not to take notice of. Shia said it best when he said-"I'm not a star, I'm an actor."

    Interesting Facts:

  • Just so you know Shia's hip hop nickname is Rap Pi.
  • He wears size 11 shoes and wears contacts.
  • He was named after his grandfather who was also a comedian.
  • In a June interview Shia said that women pay attention to him now because of his blockbuster hits. Stating "I'm enjoying myself. But I'm not great with women, dude. I'm not a closer. I can chat all night long, but I'm not the guy who goes, 'Okay, back to my room.'"
