The girls are (finally) back! It has been four long years since the first Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants movie. Based off of Ann Brashare's best selling novel, we followed along as the girls struggled with their various summer situations in Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, starring Amber Tamblyn (Joan of Arcadia), America Ferrara (Ugly Betty), Alexis Bledel (Gilmore Girls), and Blake Lively (Gossip Girl). The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants brought in $39,008,741 in June of 2005. The Chicago Sun-Times notes:

"The usefulness of her four-story structure is that none of the stories overstays its welcome, and the four girls aren't trapped in the same dumb suburban teenage romantic plot. They live, and they learn."

These girls never lead the lives of the overused typical teenage plot. The characters feel as real as yourself. This comes from a magnificent talent on Ann Brashare's part, and also from the cast. When Alexis Bledel is asked why she thinks the books are so popular, she hits the nail right on the head.

"I think it caught on because the stories that these four girls have individually in the book are extremely relatable. They’re very real teenage experiences. I think the friendship between the four girls is something that is more realistic than a lot of the relationships we see between girls in movies lately. A lot of the time it’s like backstabbing or petty or superficial. I think most girls’ relationships are real friendships like these. I don’t think they’re that much more dramatic.”

And now we find Bledel commenting on Sisterhood 2:

"This basically picks up where the last one left off -- it's the second, third and fourth books by Ann Brashares, all crammed into one movie. We're older. We're in college in this film, so the themes are a little more mature. ... There's more dating, [and it's about] trying to start your own life when you go off to college. They're each trying to grow individually, while trying to stay connected to their past and to each other."

But will the second installment really continue with the same realism, friendship, and "live and learn" attitude?

"Why didn't you tell me she'd been writing all these years?""

Lena, Tibby, Carmen, and Bridget were all just shy of 16 years old in the first film. Now, back and better then ever, our beloved characters are now in their very first year of college. What's in store for the girls now?

Bridget, still mourning the loss of her mother and having many questions about her past, decides to scurry off to Turkey for an archaeological dig. But instead, she'll realize all of the truths she longs for are right at home, the place she is running away from.

Tibby and Brian face a new challenge.

Tibby remains at New York University to finish an up and coming film project. The same old Tibby is ever so cautiously taking her relationship with Brian McBrian (Leonardo Nam) to the "next level". But there is an unexpected crisis that will have Tibby forcing her fear of letting love in fully- head on.

With Carmen's mother expecting a baby and her best friends away from the summer, Carmen accepts an invitation to work backstage at a theater festival in Vermont. Surprisingly, she is thrown into the spotlight, and becomes the focus of the plays cute leading man.

"Why can't you just follow your heart?"
"Because - he broke my heart"

Finally, Lena is studying at the Rhode Island School of Design, away from her first love Kostos. But when her summer takes an unexpected turn, she'll have to choose: holding and living off of her old memories of Kostos, or mending her heart to pursue a new and exciting love- A free-spirited fellow art student that brings out her flirtatious side.

These girls will share everything that goes on that summer with the same honesty and humor as the last. They will be discovering new strengths, weaknesses, fears, and loves through the choices they make. These four girls friendships will shine as they journey down the path of their newfound adult lives.

As for the seasoned Sisterhood fans:

The cast at the premier of the first film.

You most likely know that the second movie is not based off of the second book in Ann Brashare's series, but the fourth book. There have been some mixed reviews on Brashare's latest book- Some called the book boring, lacking of the same characteristics that we know and love, and even unoriginal. The main questions fans have- Why would they base the second movie off of the fourth book in the series, and not the well loved second or third? Will the script hold the same wit for Carmen, the same surliness for Tibby, the same shyness of Lena, and the same boldness for Bee? As for the second movie being better then the fourth book.... we'll all have to go watch, and decide for ourselves. It hits theaters August 6th!

The cast's other up and coming films:

Amber Tamblyn just completed Spring Break and is cast as a lead role in Beyond a Reasonable Doubt.

America Ferrera is finishing Tinker Bell, How to Train Your Dragon, and is cast in An Invisible Sign of My Own.

Blake Lively will be seen in New York, I Love You and The Private Lives of Pippa Lee as well as the upcoming second season of “Gossip Girl”.

Alexis Bledel will be starring in a comedy titled - The Post Grad Survival Guide as well as the upcoming third season of “Ugly Betty”.
