Movie News

Anne Hathaway has been cast to play legendary author Jane Austen (Author of Pride and Prejudice) in the upcoming film Becoming Jane. "I know, I can't believe it's an American either, I can do the accent, they wouldn't have hired me if I couldn't. I'm attached to it and we're trying to get financing for it. Jane Austen is one of the most special literary figures. I don't want to short change her in any way." The film will take a portion of Austen's life that reflects the wild romanticism of her novel.

Scarlett Johansson is in talks to star in the big screen adaptation of the bestselling novel The Nanny Diaries about nine frantic months in the life of a young woman hired to care for the neglected 4-year-old son of a pampered wife and her near-absentee husband, whose marriage begins to disintegrate during the period. The screenplay is currently being written.

In other Scarlett news she is set to star in Borgia with Colin Farrell. The film is described as a drama about the internal struggles of the most powerful family in 15th century Rome. In 1492, the Pope dies and Cardinal Rodrigo Borgia emerges as the top contender to head the Vatican, despite a litter of illegitimate children. When he gets the papal throne, Rodrigo moves to consolidate his power thereby empowering and alienating various members of his family. Johansson will play Rodrigo's daughter Lucrezia, who's torn between her family duties and a desire to find true love. Farrell will play Rodrigo's youngest sun Cesare, a duplicitous and manipulative sibling who considers himself his sister's closest confidante.

And in yet more Johannson casting news she has signed up to star in Amazon in which she plays a gladiatrix from 200 B.C. who exacts vengeance on an army that destroyed her homeland. Filming starts next June in Portrait Magazine's homeland; New Zealand.

Lindsay Lohan and Jared Leto will team up in Chapter 27 a film about the assasination of John Lennon. Leto stars as Lennon's killer Mark Chapman, who is torn between his awe of Lennon and his desire to be famous himself. Lohan plays a devoted Lennon fan who befriends Chapman on that fateful weekend in New York.

Mandy Moore has signed on to star as Diane Keaton's daughter in Because I Said So about a meddling mother who, in order to prevent her youngest daughter from following in her footsteps, attempts to set her up with the right man. Shooting began in November.

Nikki Reed is joining the cast of The OC. The cowriter of the acclaimed film Thirteen will play a girl who joins the group of Newport Beach, California, teens in the center of the show.

Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson is set to star in a new family comedy Daddy's Girl for Disney. He's quoted as saying he will star as "a star quarterback on an NFL team, very brash and cocky, but not in the way of Tyrell Owens in the States but in the way of a Brett Favre who is so respected and everybody loves, but who has been single all of his life. His life gets turned upside down when his little daughter comes into his life, who's six years old."

Ben Stiller will star in the Family Comedy A Night at the Museum about a night security guard at the Museum of Natural History who unwittingly unleashes a curse that brings to life the bugs and animals on display.

Ben Stiller will also star Reign O'er Me in which he will play a man who lost his family on Sept. 11 and has never recovered from his grief. He runs into his former college roommate, who has become a doctor and who is determined to help his ex-roomie come to grips with his loss.

Reese Witherspoon will star in The Reckoning; based on the 2004 book by Jeff Long, the story centers on a photojournalist who arrives in Cambodia to cover the U.S. military search for the remains of an American pilot shot down during the Vietnam War.
