Drew Barrymore will also star in Grey Gardens a fact-based drama about two eccentric relatives of Jacqueline Kennedy who made headlines when the health department threatened to raid their flea- and raccoon-infested East Hampton, N.Y., estate. Barrymore will play Little Edie, and Jessica Lange will play her mother, Big Edie Bouvier Beale, the socialite cousin and aunt, respectively, of Kennedy Onassis. The Edies made headlines around the world when Jackie O herself materialized to rescue her family from public disgrace. The film will cover 40 years. Mischa Barton will star with Shirley MacLaine in Closing the Ring a romantic drama set in Belfast and North Carolina during two time periods: 1943 and 1993. The script begins when a U.S. B-17 crashes near Belfast, a dying gunner asks a local to return his ring to his girlfriend in America. Half a century later, a young man finds the ring, learns its history and tracks down the girlfriend. Production begins in May. Mandy Moore and James McAvoy are in final negotiations to star in the indie dramatic thriller Twist of Fate which centers on Chrissie (Moore), a working-class girl in love with moody and intense Joe (McAvoy). Their lives irreparably change after a car accident kills the fiancee of a local young socialite, a crime that they do not report. Jessica Biel will co-star with Nicolas Cage and Julianne Moore in the sci-fi thriller Next. The story centers on a man (Cage) with the unique ability to see future events and affect their outcome. Pursued by the FBI, which is seeking to use his abilities to prevent a global terrorist, he ultimately must decide whether to save himself or the world. Biel will play Liz, the love interest of Cage's character, whom he must attempt to save from terrorists. The film will start production in late March. Mariah Carey will star in Tennessee an independent drama in which she will play a waitress who sets off with two brothers to find their estranged father. Their goal: Get dad involved in saving their younger brother, who has leukemia. The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe was such a boxoffice success that Disney has already started production on it's sequel Prince Caspian "Prince Caspian" finds the Pevensie siblings pulled back into the land of Narnia, where a thousand years have passed since they left. The children are once again enlisted to join the colorful creatures of Narnia in combating an evil villain who prevents the rightful Prince from ruling the land. Production will start later this year with a Christmas 2007 release slated. Nancy Drew and the Mystery of Hollywood Hills has started filming. Starring Emma Roberts as the beloved teen slueth, now updated for the 21st century, whom accompanies her father to Los Angeles on one of his business trips and stumbles across evidence about a long-unsolved crime involving the mysterious death of a beautiful movie star. Nancy's resourcefulness and personal responsibility are put to the test when she finds herself in the middle of the fast-living, self-indulgent world of Hollywood. Kirsten Bell of Veronica Mars fame is in final negotiations to play "Star Wars" geek in the comedy-drama "Fanboys." The film follows four "Star Wars" fanboys from the Midwest who drive across the country to honor the wish of their dying friend: to see the yet-unreleased "Star Wars: Episode I -- The Phantom Menace" in its optimal setting: George Lucas' Skywalker Ranch. |
