Today's Top 3 teen Shows

So what are the best teen shows on TV today? What is a teen show anyway? Do Disney channel shows such as Phil of the Future and the Suite life of Zach and Cody count? Or Nickelodean's 'Unfabulous' and 'Zoey 101'? Is a teen show a sitcom (Malcolm in the Middle) and a Soap (Dawson's Creek)? What about reality TV like Laguna Beach?

All I know is what I love and you can find that out below...

Kat's Number 1: Veronica Mars

Are you watching Veronica Mars? If you're not I'm afraid this relationship between you and I just isn't going to work...

Veronica Mars is without a doubt one of the best shows on television - in any category: teen, mystery, drama, comedy etc. but don't just take my word for it. Check out what the critics are saying:

"In this smart, engaging series about a former popular girl turned crime-solving high school outcast, the hard-boiled dialogue comes from its teen protagonist's mouth in a way that stabs any potential cutesiness in the heart with an ice pick" - LA Weekly

"Veronica Mars is a sharp teen noir in the making. Tinged with class resentment and nostalgia for Veronica's lost innocence, this series pulses with promise" - The village voice

"Equal parts intrigue, drama, and humor, Veronica Mars is also a lesson book for the disenfranchised. Few tv series aim so high; even fewer succeed so well" - Pop Matters

"[Veronica Mars] is, hands-down, the best show on television right now, and proof that TV can be far better than cinema." - Kevin Smith (Director: Clerks)

The show centers on 17-year-old Veronica, a tough and intelligent young woman who became a social outcast in her town and school after the mysterious death of her best friend Lilly. Veronica's father, Keith, was the deputy sheriff who went after Lilly's father causing a great outcry in their hometown of Neptune. Now Keith works as a Private Investigator and Veronica helps out working as his secretary. Over the years she has picked up numerous skills for solving cases and is known around town and at school as something of a 21st century Nancy Drew.

Season 1 and Season 2 of Veronica Mars are now available on DVD, Season 3 will air on the CW in September.

Kat's Number 2: Instant Star

A good majority of you will at this point be saying 'Instant What?'.

Instant Star is a hit Canadian show brought to us by the same network as Degrassi: The next generation (Another brilliant show I just didn't have room to fit into this article). The show centers around 16-year-old Jude who wins an American Idol (but smaller scale) type show and is signed to G-Major Records. She's struggling with growing up and negotiating the world of celebrity. Each week includes a new song by Jude.

Instant Star stars Alexz Johnson as Jude Harrison. Alexz is a real life musician who has written much of the music featured in Instant Star. With years of operatic training and a four octave range Alexz is a true superstar who makes Jude a character to love. (For more Alexz Johnson visit: Alexz Fan) Season 3 of Instant Star just began production a couple of weeks ago and will air in February of 2006. This writer cannot wait!

The Soundtracks for Season 1 and Season 2 are out now.

Kat's Number 3: Malcolm in the Middle

Sadly, if I do this list again next year Malcolm will no longer qualify. It was with great sadness I watched the final episode last month and bid adieu to Malcolm as he went off to Harvard and took another step toward his families dream of World Domination (One Superpower at a time)...

The show centered around Malcolm, your average teenager from America's most disfunctional family. Malcolm is a genius, his big brother Reese is a bully, his biggest brother Francis is a rebel, little brother Dewey is well... Dewey. Then there's his Dad who kinda makes more sense when you hum the theme for 'The Twighlight Zone' and Mother dearest... she's a control freak with anger management problems.

Malcolm in the Middle was a true gem of TV comedy. It's humor was always fresh and briliant and the cast played their parts perfectly. It will be missed.

I also asked you guys which your favorite teen drama was. I didn't dare try to include every show categorizable as a teen show and simply included the highest reted international hits (One Tree Hill, Veronica Mars, The O.C and Smallville)

Your Number 1:
The O.C

One Tree Hill

Your Number 3:

"I plan to get all 'Wrath of Khan' on it," Singer said - a reference to 1982's Star Trek: The Wrath of Khan, which is generally considered as having breathed life into the Star Trek franchise after 1979's Star Trek: The Motion Picture suffered critical barbs. "We haven't concluded a deal. That's always iffy," Singer added. "The intention is to do it for 2009."

When he discovers that an Indian casino is about to be built over the town's historic battlefield, Chase Revere (Long), the self-appointed protector of a small town's rather meager place in American history, joins forces with sexy but quirky Lucy Shanks to launch an all-out offensive against the project -- earning the wrath of the entire town, who belive that the casino will save their dying, rust-belt community.

Eva Longoria will star in I Met My Boyfriend's Dead Fiance. The film centers on a female psychic (Bell) who falls in love with a skeptic (Rudd) while the ghost of his dead fiance, played by Longoria, tries to keep them apart.
