Teddy is a favorite here at Portrait Magazine. This singer/songwriter recently released his debut album 'Underage Thinking' to rave reviews and the number 8 spot on the Billboard Top 100. The album showcases a depth beyond his 17-years that is fast catching peoples attention. His debut single 'Confidence' is a hit, he's toured with Hilary Duff and Tyler Hilton and he's even tested the acting waters already with a recurring spot on the show 'Love Monkey'. Why we love him: As we've already said his music shows a depth beyond his age with lyrics that qualify as pure poetry. Not only is this 12-year-old absolutely adoreable but she has immense talent to boot. Since starring opposite Sean Penn in the 2001 release 'I am Sam' Dakota has been winning the praises of Hollywood old and young alike with such films as 'War of the Worlds', 'Man on Fire', and 'Dreamer'. She'll next be seen in the adaptions of 'Charlotte's Web' and 'Alice in Wonderland' and with her 13th birthday coming up next year she's bound to rank in Portrait Top 30 under 30 lists for years to come. Why we love her: She's absolutely adoreable and has the sweetest personality. Then there's the amazing talent we haven't seen in a child star since Haley Joel Osment.
Jamie Bell burst onto the dance scene with a hop and a skip in the hit British film about an aspiring young dancer; 'Billy Elliot'. Now twenty Jamie recently appeared in 'King Kong', 'The Chumscrubber' and 'Dear Wendy' and the epic Green Day music video 'Wake me up when September Ends' along with Evan Rachel Wood. He even featured on the cover of our August 2004 issue of Portrait. Next up for this British actor is the Clint Eastwood directed epic war film 'Flags of our Fathers'. Why we love him: Jamie has fantastic acting chops and has shown his talent in a variety of different roles during his 20 years.
Hailing from Brisbane Australia Jess and Lisa Origliasso are both 20-years-old. These Aussie rockers burst onto the scene late last year with their infectious debut single '4ever' and the follow up 'Everything I'm not', the video of which saw the two destroying a cheating ex boyfriends car. The new single 'When It All Falls Apart' drops in the states this month. Their debut album 'The secret life of the Veronicas' dropped recently to rave reviews. With attitude and talent to booth these two don't look to be going anywhere soon. Why we love them: Their music is infectiously catchy and appealing and the two present something to different to the somewhat over Americanized music scene. Kelly Clarkson burst onto the scene with the pop culture phenomenem 'American Idol'. Since winning the competition in 2002 there have been four more idols but none have been able to match Kelly's success. In 2006 she won her first two grammy's (Best Female Pop Vocal and Best Pop Vocal Album) and her sophomore album 'Breakaway' has gone 3 times platinum with hit singles such as 'Since U been gone', 'Behind these Hazel Eyes', 'Breakaway', 'Because of you' and the new hit 'Walk away'. Why we love her: Kelly has an amazing voice and as she's recently proven song-writing talent to boot.
17-year-old Chris brown is a fresh new face on the R&B/Hip Hop scene. Already a record breaker he is currently the first ever male solo recording artist to debut at number one. His first single 'Run it' has been a smash hit and his debut album has gone platinum with other hits like 'Gimme That' and 'Yo'. He hopes to get into acting in the near future and has already done a guest spot on the sitcom 'One on one'. He's already off to a great start and we expect to see big things from this young star. Why we love him: Chris has a great voice and great dance moves. His music is appealing and catchy without being overly offensive as I personally find much R&B/Hip Hop. Despite the problems with paporazzi Lindsay has been going from strength to strength recently. The 19-year-old star just released her first film playinig an adult 'Just my Luck' and has numerous projects coming out including 'A Prairie Home Companion' and 'Bobby', both of which are circulating talk of an Oscar nomination for the young star. Her sophomore album 'A little More Personal' showcased a new musical depth with the heartwrenching single 'Confessions of a Broken Heart (Daughter to Father). Hilary is a hit in both the acting and music world. To date she has sold more then 5 million copies of her two albums 'Matamorphosis' and 'Hilary Duff'. Currently on a sold out world tour Hilary has been hopping from Europe to the US, Mexico to Australia. Her upcoming film probjects include 'Material Girls' in which she stars with her sister Haylie and the animated 'Food Fight'. Then there's the 'Stuff by Duff' fashion line and brand currently going international with former Olsen twin managed Robert Thorne at the helm. Why we love her: Hilary has an infectious cheerful personality and miraculously manages to veer away from the overly seductive route of her counterparts, earning her the title of the Portrait Top 30 under 30 'Role Model'. The adopted daughter of Lionel Richie; Nicole has grown up in the spotlight. After succesfully overcoming a drug problem Nicole headed into reality TV stardom with best friend Paris in 'The Simple Life', though she and Paris are history the tv series is currently in it's fourth season. She's currently recording her debut much-anticipated album and testing the acting waters appearing in last years 'Kids in America'. Why we love her: She's gone from being Paris Hilton's sidekick to a gorgeous and (far more) likeable star in her own right.
19-year-old Alexz currently plays Jude on the hit Canadian series 'Instant Star' after getting her start on the Disney series 'So Weird'. On 'Instant Star' and in real life Alexz is an aspiring musician with a big talent. She often writes songs for Instant Star (and has released two albums in the form of soundtracks for the show). She recently appeared in 'Final Destination 3' and is working on her first solo album. Season 3 of Instant Star starts filming this summer! Why we love her: Instant Star is an addicting TV series due in large to the fantastic music Alexz as Jude creates on the show. Alexz has huge talent and a unique charisma.
Drake bell celebrates his 20th birthday on June 27th. The Nickelodean star who has appeared on hit shows such as 'The Amanda Show' and the current hit 'Drake and Josh' was recently in a near-fatal head-on collision in which he fractured his neck, knocked out six teeth, and had to have his jaw wired shut. The actor and musician (he recently released his debut album 'Telegraph') is forging a good comeback with the upcoming feature 'Drake and Josh' film and new episodes of the tv series filming in July. Why we love him: Drake is a definite survivor who has dealt with his recent afflictions with grace (he wasn't at fault in the accident). He's also a talented comedic actor who makes great music! Keira Knightley has come along with since her breakthrough role in the hit 'Bend it like Beckham'. This year she was nominated for her first Oscar for her performance in the adaption of the Jane Austen classic 'Pride and Prejudice'. Coming up in July is the release of the much anticipated sequel to 'Pirates of the Carribean', 'Dead Mans Chest' in which Keira is back along with Johnny and Orlando. Keira will also be seen in 'The Other Boleyn Girl', 'Boleyn', 'Atonement' and 'Pirates of the Carribean 3'. Why we love her: Keira is an immensely talented and absolutely gorgeous actress. Ashlee Simpson is no longer the lesser known little sister of Jessica Simpson but a star in her own right. Her two albums 'Autobiography' and 'I am me' have been huge hits building Ashlee a large and loyal fanbase with hit singles like 'Shadow', 'Pieces of Me', 'La La', 'L.O.V.E' and 'Boyfriend'. Not even her lip syncing disaster on Saturday Night Live has managed to sink her successful ship. Last year she appeared in her first feature film 'Undiscovered' after appearing on the WB's '7th Heaven before starting in music. Why we love her: This rock chick has definite talent and big appeal. Not too long ago it was 'Fall Out Boy who'? Even the band admits they think of their current success as some sort of elaborate practical joke. The band get their name from Moorehouse' alter ego in the Simpsons. The band have won our hearts with the hit singles 'Sugar, We're Goin Down', 'Dance, Dance' and the new hit 'A Little Less Sixteen Candles, A Little More "Touch Me"' all of which appear on their sophomore album 'From Under the Cork Tree'. Why we love them: The music is absolutely infectious and you've got to admire their penchant for looong song titles such as 'I've Got A Dark Alley And A Bad Idea That Says You Should Shut Your Mouth (Summer Song)'
The Jonas brothers are like a 21st century version of the 90's band Hanson. Hailing from New Jersey and comprising of three brothers Kevin (aged 17), Joseph (aged 15) and Nicholas (aged 14) who started singing as soon as they could talk. The band create infectious caffiene-high pop/rock tracks such as 'Mandy' (The video of which is a mini-series in three parts). Their debut album 'It's About Time' will be released this summer. Rachel McAdams has really earned the title of America's Sweetheart. Since her breakout performance as the nasty Regina in 'Mean Girls' the Canadian born actress has appeared in films as numerous as they are varying including the romance 'The Notebook', the hit comedy 'The Wedding Crashers', the suspenseful action flick 'Red Eye' and the family dramedy 'The Family Stone'. The actress recently celebrated her 29th birthday making her the oldest on our list. Why we love her: There's something immensely appealing on Rachel not to mention her great acting talent.
There's something really classical about Emmy Rossum. Trained in Opera at the Metropolitan Opera in NYC Emmy later took the lead in the 2005 film version of Andrew Lloyd Webber's 'The Phantom of the Opera' to rave reviews. She's also appeared in 'The Day After Tomorrow' and the 2006 Summer blockbuster 'Poseiden'. Emmy is reportedly putting her fantastic voice to work and is currently recording her debut pop album, due for release sometime in the near future. Why we love her: Emma has a fanastic voice which has profited greatly from her classical training then there's the sparkling personality that makes her so appealing.
Cole and Dylan Sprouse have been in the acting business since they were little, granted they still are. The short stars shared a role in 'Big Daddy' opposite Ben Stiller and currently appear in the hit Disney series 'The Suite life of Zach and Cody' about two precocious 12-year-olds who live in a suite at a fancy hotel and create all sorts of havoc. The two recently inked a deal with Mary-Kate and Ashley's Dualstar productions to create a boys fashion line and brand 'Sprouse Bros.' First step, their very own magazine! Why we love them: For starters they're totally adoreable then 'The Suite life of Zach and Cody' is an enjoyable Disney tween show that's definitely worth checking out.
We first met Brittany when she starred in the drama 'American Dreams' about two families growing up in 1960's America. Brittany's character Meg introduced a new generation to the music of the 60's while dancing on 'American Bandstand'. Since 'American Dreams' cancellation last year Brittany has appeared on 'Nip Tuck' playing a character that couldn't be more of an opposite to innocent Meg. In 2006 she will appear in the teen comedy 'John Tucker Must Die' with Ashanti and Sophia Bush as well as 'On the Doll' and 'Beyond Legend: Johnny Kakota' Why we love her: American Dreams was a great show and Brittany was definitely it's star. The pretty blonde has a great career ahead of her.
Jared Padalecki rose to fame playing Rory's super nice first boyfriend Dean on the hit dramedy 'Gilmore Girls'. Jared was so popular with fans that the WB have been trying to create a TV series for him for some time, they achieved it with the hit new series 'Supernatural' in which Jared stars alongside Jensen Ackles, the two play brothers tracking down mysterious supernatural forces in search of their father. Jared also recently appeared in the films 'Cry Wolf', 'Flight of the Phoenix', 'New York Minute' and 'House of Wax' Why we love him: For starters he's totally cute. Well... that could be our main reason actually. He's also pretty talented with a tongue twister last name.
Syblings Alyson and Amanda Michalka are Aly and AJ the hit pop duo with a large Disney fanbase. Alyson rose to fame on the hit Disney Channel series 'Phil of the Future'. Little sister Amanda is less known in the acting scene but the two recently starred together in the Disney Channel Original Movie 'CowBelles' as for the music its a lot deeper (The song 'I Am One of Them' tackles the subject of child kidnapping and the two hope to raise awareness on the topic) and better then you'd expect. The hit UPN show 'Veronica Mars' has been receiving rave reviews since it's debut in 2004. Starring Kristen Bell as Veronica Mars a 21st century Nancy Drew the show tackles the mysteries plaguing the Californian city of Neptune where nothing happens by accident. Jason Dohring plays Veronica's nemesis turned love interest Logan, Teddy Dunn plays Duncan, her first love, Percy Daggs III is Wallace the loyal best friend and Francis Capra is Weevil the head of the Neptune biker gang. Why we love them: Veronica Mars is one of the best teen shows on TV today and this young cast (and some brilliant writing) make it what it is. Jojo, Emma Roberts and Sara Paxton starred together in the 2006 teen film 'Aquamarine'. Jojo is the youngest girl to ever have a number one single, the song 'Leave (get out)' appears on her debut album 'Jojo', she also appears in the film 'RV'. Emma Roberts stars in Nickelodean's 'Unfabulous' and has released a soundtrack album to the show. She next appears in the movie 'Nancy Drew and the mystery of Hollywood Hills'. Sara Paxton has appeared in numerous projects including 'Sleepover' and the animal planet show 'Darcy's Wild Life'. The Disney Channel Original Movie 'High School Musical' has become the new multi-million dollar breakthrough. Featuring a cast of little known actors the movie became the highest rating film in the Disney Channels 20-something years then there's the soundtrack that has sold more then 2 million copies and hit #1 twice on the Billboard top 100. The film is a twenty-first-century 'Grease' featuring catchy pop tracks and appealing characters. Zac Efron, Vanessa Anne Hudgens, Ashley Tisdale and Lucas Grabeel make up the films feature cast. Why we love them: The movie wouldn't have been the success it was without this cast of talented young actors and singers. Beyonce rose to fame with the girlband 'Destiny's Child'. Destiny's became one of the most successful girlbands of all time, introducing the world to hits like 'Say my name', 'Survivor', and 'Bootylicious'. After taking time of from Destiny's Child, Beyonce released her debut solo album 'Dangerously in love' which was a huge success. She also dabbled in acting with roles in 'Austin Powers', 'The fighting temptations' and the 2006 release 'The Pink Panther'. Destiny's reformed recently and released one final album and greatest hit collection. Beyonce is currently working on her sophomore solo release. Mischa Barton's breakthrough role was playing Melissa on the hit series 'The O.C.' after having a career in theatre, tv and film since childhood, she also modeled with the Ford Modeling agency. Her portrayal of the angst ridden teen shot her to instant stardom and though Mischa recently left the series her acting career on the Silver Screen seems to be developing well. She'll soon be seen in 'Hexxx', 'Closing the Ring', and 'Angels and Virgins'. Born in England, Mischa immigrated to America when she was a toddler. Why we love her: Mischa's three season stint on The O.C. made the show a hit and there's talk that now she's gone the series will soon be cancelled. Talent definately runs in the Bedingfield family; Natasha is the younger sybling of hit popstar Daniel Bedingfield. Originally from New Zealand the family immigrated to England when Daniel was just a baby. Natasha's debut album 'Unwritten' featured the hit singles 'Single', 'These Words (I Love You, I Love You)' and 'Unwritten'. Natasha recently inked a multi-million dollar record deal with an American label and is currently promoting her music in the US and working on her sophomore album. Now 23 Mandy has released two more albums 'Mandy Moore' and 'Coverage'. She recently signed to a new label and is working on her fourth album, the first album she has cowritten. Then there's the acting career, she won numerous accolades with her first starring role in 'A walk to remember'. She will next be seen in 'Personal Shopping', 'Safety Glass', 'Twist of Fate', 'License to Wed', 'Because I Said So', 'Dedication', 'Brother Bear II' and 'Southland Tales' Why we love her: She's really talented and has a great personality.
Jessica Alba started acting in the tv series 'Flipper', at the age of 19 she won the lead role in the tv series 'Dark Angel', now she has a succesful feature film career with roles in movies like 'Never Been Kissed', 'Idle Hands', 'The Sleeping Dictionary', 'Honey', 'Sin City', 'Into the Blue' and 'Fantastic Four'. She'll next be seen in the thriller 'Awake' in which she stars with Hayden Christensen as well as the sequels to Fantastic Four and Sin City. Why we love her: She's talented and gorgeous.
