Going to London for the first time alone, I can’t lie I was nervous! So many things can go wrong that you often forget that they will probably go right! Going alone to your local city is a walk in the park but going to the ‘big’ city is a whole different experience. I don’t live far from London so it’s just a couple of hours straight on a train but there was still the underground, timetables and tickets to comprehend! Luckily I came out alive and can now tell you all about my favourite things to do there. So with London buzzing round my brain I decided to do the next series of articles on England’s Capital. A plan for each day maybe? Personally my favourite day to visit London is a Thursday. So let’s start with that. So let’s say we are visiting for a week from some place far away and metaphorically we arrived in London late on Wednesday and we were so tired we just fell into bed until the next morning, Thursday. Day 1 (for all intensive purposes a Thursday!)

Just across from Liverpool Street station is Old Spitalfields market and today its home to the antique and vintage fair as well as the many shops, restaurants and cafes that are situated around the marketplace. There are some gorgeous things to buy and it’s the perfect place to pick up a stunning prom dress whether it’s a 1950’s classic from a market stool or a chic little number at Traffic People. “Escape from the cloned high streets and discover 'hidden gems' from fashion, arts to interiors and property, as you wander through areas steeped in history but recently immersed in creativity and cutting edge style.” (–visitspitalfields.com) I have to mention this one shop (I’m unsure of the name and can’t seem to find it on Google!) that is incredibly kitsch, with wacky dresses, big hair, and sweets lining the walls! It’s one of those places you’d like to stay forever, so keep an eye out for that! There is also a covered area where musicians play over lunch and activities are held in the evening such as Tango dancing classes and anyone is welcome to join in!

Spitalfields has something for everyone especially where food is involved, but you might just want to get a light snack here as there is something even better waiting for you after Spitalfields. Firstly we need to brave the underground though! Now getting a tube alone is probably the greatest thing I achieved last time I went to London, the thought terrified me but I put on a brave face, used the correct ticket, barged my way through crowds of stressed workers and navigated my way west bound, to arrive at Westfield in Shepherd’s Bush, the place where Selena Gomez rocked out at her first UK concert is now part of the Westfield family! Those of you that have never been in a Westfield really must! I’ve been to a couple in places all around the world and they are honestly hands-down the best shopping malls. (See last month’s article on San Fran!) Shepherd’s bush Westfield has Kitchen Italia, my all time favourite restaurant as well as a mouth watering food court, whatever you fancy, it’s available! As well as Zara, H&M, Topshop and Next, Westfield also houses half my closet in Pull and Bear, Bershka and All Saints, all slightly edgy and you can’t miss them! So for day one in London I recommend playing the fields! The friendly care free environment mixed with the amazing clothes and food is a fun, girly day out, but for those of you that would prefer to see the sites and dip your toes in some culture on day 2 we could ride the London eye or check out the V&A? Hmm, we’ll decide later!
