2010 Top 10 TV BFFs as voted by YOU!

When you can’t count on your family, who can you count on? When you need a shoulder to cry on or someone to listen to you rant, who do you go to? Who’s willing to sit with you in comfortable silence and just know? When you just want to be silly or have a good giggle, who do you turn to it? People come and go but friends are forever and always there. Through the ups and downs, good times and bad, problems big or small, there’s nothing like a best friend! Whether fictional or real, best friends rock, so for the first time in Portrait history, we present to you the Top 10 TV BFFs as voted by YOU!
DISCLAIMER: In case you missed the memo during the nomination process, the top two BFF nominations from each show were chosen as finalists to ensure that one show did not dominate the list. As only current friendships were eligible with the condition that all characters from the duo or trio were a present principal character at the moment.
#10. Adrianna, Silver, & Naomi [ 90210] Friendship is having fun.
When season two of 90210 started up last year, we were pleasantly surprised to see Naomi, Adrianna, and Silver as the three musketeers having fun in the sun. After all it wasn’t that long ago that Naomi and Adrianna’s friendship had been strained from Adrianna’s drug habit, or that Silver and Naomi were ex-friends after Naomi betrayed Silver’s trust in the 8th grade. The friendship between these three provided much light-heartedness not just on the show but also into their three lives. It was great to see them try and forget about the drama in their lives and do normal teenage girl things like shop, hang at the beach or gossip by the pool. Sure there have been times throughout the season where the girls went through a few rough patches (at one point they alienated Adrianna), but in the end they’ve always forgiven each other and had each other’s back and then returned to their fun and giggly girly ways, and that’s what friendship is all about!

9. Alex & Harper [ The Wizards of Waverly Place] Friendship is about laughter.
If you’re friends can’t make you laugh, who can? These two girls have been buddies and getting up to mischief together since Kindergarten. They’ve survived Harper’s crush on Alex’s brother Justin, and jealousy over each other’s new friends (Stevie ring a bell?).Whether it be Harper’s kooky fashion sense, Alex’s schemes, or Harper being paranoid of Alex’s magical powers, these two are always up for a laugh and you know what they say – laughter is the best medicine in life! Besides if you can’t be a little kooky with your best friend and have a good laugh over it, who can you do it with?

#8. Brooke & Haley [ One Tree Hill] Friendship is being the yin to each other’s yang.
Tigger and Tutorgirl – they seem like total opposites, yet make the best of friends. Who would have thought from the start that these two different ladies would trust each other to become roomies let alone lifelong best friends! Haley even appointed Brooke as her son Jamie’s godmother – they sure have come a long way since that late night car ride where Brooke insisted on Haley being her mini-Brooke! The friendship between these two wasn’t an immediate one. It took a while for Haley to get past wanting Brooke to get hit by a bus to Brooke being one of the few people who supported Haley when she returned to Tree Hill, but that’s what makes this friendship even more real and special – the fact that it was such a natural progression. These two understand each other so altruistically that they really are the yin to each other’s yang!

#7. Elena & Bonnie [ The Vampire Diaries] Friendship is protecting each other.
Elena and Bonnie are such good best friends that they consider each other like sisters and when it comes to family, you always want to protect them. When Bonnie is held captive by crazy vampire Ben, it’s Elena that comes to her rescue and protects her when he tries to attack Bonnie. But sometimes protecting friends can be for their own benefit but not necessarily something they agree with and that’s the true test of friendship. Case and point, after her Grams died, Bonnie went out of town for awhile and when she returned, things were a little off between her and Elena. It turns out that Bonnie blamed Elena’s vampire friends Stefan and Damon for the death of her grandmother and rather than put Elena in an awkward position and force her to choose between herself and the Salvatore brothers, Bonnie tried to protect Elena’s feelings and didn’t clue her in. Friendship isn’t all roses, the stronger ones are about personal sacrifice.

#6. Kurt and Mercedes [ Glee] Friendship is being on the same wavelength.
She’s the closeted diva and he’s a diva with an awesome closet! Together, Kurt Hummel and Mercedes Jones are the dynamic duo who really should have their own show! These two had a bit of an awkward beginning from personality clashes to Mercedes crushing on Kurt, but quickly overcame that with a little help from their shared love of music, fashion and love of the limelight. What we love about this two apart from their adorable gestures (whether it be their high fives, hugs and kisses or special smiles), is just how in synch they are with what the other is thinking and sometimes it’s without saying a word – now that’s true friendship!

#5. Miley, Lilly, & Oliver [ Hannah Montana] Friendship is getting up to mischief.
One of the best things about friends is doing stupid things and getting into trouble for it but being able to laugh about it, if you can do that, that’s true friendship! Over the years we’ve seen Miley, Lilly, and Oliver get up to some pretty funny mishaps whether it be as themselves or as their alter egos Hannah, Lola and Mike, and these hilarious incidents have only made their friendship stronger! Besides, getting into trouble with your best friends is way more fun than getting into trouble all on your own!

#4. Blair & Serena [ Gossip Girl] Friendship is about forgiveness.
Blair Waldorf and Serena Van Der Woodsen have been through a LOT. From jealousy and petty fights, to Serena sleeping with Blair’s boyfriend, to Blair scheming behind Serena’s back. It takes a strong and special friendship to overcome all that drama and the friendship between Blair and Serena is definitely that. These two BFFs are each other’s families and have managed to overcome so many dramas throughout their long friendship. We’re not worried when Blair and Serena fight because we know they’ll eventually make up and when they do it’s well worth it, because these rare and vulnerable tender moments are quite often the highlight of the show.

3. Clark and Chloe [ Smallville] Friendship is about having each other’s backs no matter what.
Chloe and Clark have been friends since Chloe came to Smallville in the 8th grade, but that doesn’t mean that they haven’t had their fair share of dramas along the way – from jealousy to romantic entanglements to disagreements and career choices. Nonetheless through it all, even when they weren’t on the best of terms, Chloe and Clark still had each other’s backs and always protected each other and that is the makings of a great friendship. Chloe and Clark are more than just best friends – they’re each other’s equals. Clark doesn’t trust anyone with his secret the way he trusts Chloe, and Chloe isn’t afraid to speak up and express her opinion when she disagrees with Clark no matter how badly she may think he’ll react. Forget sidekicks – these two are each other’s partners!

#2. Brittany and Sanatana [ Glee] Friendship is about being true to yourself.
Friendship is about being true to yourself and your friends accepting and loving you for who you really are – flaws and all. Glee’s Brittany and Santana are a perfect example of this deep kind of friendship. These two partners in crime are loyal and always support one another. When Brittany has one of her ditz moments – and let’s face it, that happens quite often – Santana never looks down on her or treats her like a child. She accepts it as part of who Brittany is. Likewise when Santana is being feisty and blunt to the other Glee members and Mr Schu – Brittany never tells her to tone it down, but rather backs her up and agrees with her. We love these pinking-hooking besties and wouldn’t have them any other way!

Euripedes once said “One loyal friend is worth ten thousand relatives.” Luckily for Sam and Dean, they have the best of both worlds being brothers and all. But seriously folks these guys are more than brothers and have a bond that can never be broken. Remember in season three when the Trickster tricked Sam into reliving the same day all over again and again to teach him a lesson that he and Dean had to stop making sacrifices for each other, but Sam still refused to give in? Even this latest season where Sam chose demons over Dean, the bond between the two always won out in the end and saved them. No matter what happens, these two will always need each other as true friends do.
