Upcoming Stars Spotlight
By Eleni and Kiwi

Have you ever wondered how bands got started? Ever wondered how they got famous so quickly?

Well it all starts when they start promoting their music. Promotion is the one of key aspects of marketing. It involves getting a product known and creating a want for it. That’s what artists do. The first step is creating their music. But what’s music when no-one appreciates it? One of the main objectives of an artist is to get their music known by the public and eventually loved by the public.

And how do they do that? They do it by using promotion techniques and strategies, such as radio stations, myspace, magazines, free concerts etc.

That’s what we do. Eleni and Kiwi, otherwise known as Epol Promotions. We have set up a myspace that provides a free service to artists. We do graphics such as banners, layouts, we make press kits, we organize street teams, we contact magazines and radio stations; we do anything and everything to help artists get known.

You can check out our myspace here, www.myspace.com/epolpromotions

Now in this section of the magazine, we’re going to be introducing to you two artists who we feel deserve to be recognized. There will be Eleni’s pick and Kiwi’s pick, in which we will try to introduce you to the band and give you reasons to listen to their music.

Eleni’s Pick

Velvet Code

This month, I’ve decided to pick an electro band from New York, called Velvet Code.

Velvet Code is made up of 3 members; Marlon (lead singer), Ryan (drums) and Nick (keyboards). These three males are set to attack your ears with their fantastic single, “Trust Fund Girl,” which has an upbeat rhythm and catchy lyrics. Their dedication and hard work really shows through their music, and as their fan base grows daily, their popularity rises.

If you’re a fan of electronic music, or you like upbeat songs with catchy choruses that you’ll sing for days on end, then Velvet Code is definitely a band to listen to. Their music can be found on their myspace and on their debut single can be found on iTunes.

Don’t be intimidated by their somewhat unusual appearance; be excited by their exciting approach to the music industry and their unique sound!

Convinced? Head on over to www.myspace.com/velvetcodeband and have a quick listen!

Loving the folky pop rock that has been hitting the airwaves? Getting a toothache from the sugary pop music?

Then you'll love Mel Evans. This UK native gives an amazing vocal performance with chill tempo songs that are perfect to relax too. Take a listen, and you'll hear echos of Michelle Branch and Drake Bell in her songs. Even more amazing, Mel is only 14 years old.

Although she's only in the demo stage of her career, head on over to www.myspace.com/melevansband to check out her newest songs. Be sure to listen to the guitar in the songs – Mel has been known to play in her demos. She's very dedicated to her fans, and loves to chat and hear feedback.

Keep an eye out for Mel Evans in the future. She's on the brink of something amazing.
