In Portrait's new column 'Website Spotlights' we take a look at various popular fansites on the internet and chat with their creators about what it is that makes their site so great.

This week’s theme is Disney Channel Stars.

Surfing the internet is one of my favorite things to do. I always look for information on some of my favorite celebrities. With all the latest fan sites popping up everywhere, I’ve decided to choose some of my favorites, and share them with you.

First, is my favorite Jonas Brothers Fan site: JBFan.org (Jonas Brothers Fan), This site is your number one source for everything Jonas Brothers. Kimo, the site owner and creator always make the most professional layouts and updates daily with all kinds of fun and exclusive information.

Why do you think your site is so popular?
Kimo: I wouldn't consider JBFan.org "popular" - but I would call it well known! There's tons of great sources for Jonas Brothers news, pictures, and videos, but JBFan.org get's them first!

How did you learn web design?
Kimo: I opened up Photoshop 4 years ago and just started playing around! Eventually, I started getting better and better! Here and there, I'd Google a tutorial if I needed it.

Where do you get your images?
Kimo: I get my images from TONS of photo agencies. My favorites would be WireImage! They also have the latest; I recommend it - 100%.

What advice do you have for people who want to start a fansite?
Kimo: Do it! Don't think twice! When I started JBFan.org, I was discouraged because all the other JB sites started booming! Then, I found more and more sources and mince quickly rose to the top!

Why did you decide to create a fansite for the Jonas Brothers?
Kimo: This is actually a funny story! I was flipping through a Tiger Beat magazine and saw a "Q&A" section with the Jonas Brothers. I read it was like, "these guys sound like me!" A day or two later, I bought their first album (It's About Time) and was instantly a fan. About 2 weeks later, JBFan.org was born... all because of Tiger Beat magazine!

What's the most hits your site has had in a single day?
Kimo: Wow, back in... June I received over 10,000 hits! Now, I receive just less than that! It's truly a blessing!

Your Favorite Thing About Your Celebrity(s):
Kimo: They are AMAZING entertainers! Every show I've been too, I was blown away! Before they signed with Disney, their shows were so intimate. Those were the best! Soon, they became more known and their productions became bigger and bigger.

A Little History About Your Site:
Kimo: JBFan.org started as "JBFan" on May 1, 2007 as a small love for the Jonas Brothers... now - it has evolved into one of the best JB fansites. That's everything in a nutshell!

My second favorite fansite is Emily Osment World (www.emilyosment.us), a fansite for the wonderful Emily Osment. This fansite is very professional and very fun at the same time. Zhar, the owner and creator is a very dedicated to providing Emily’s fans with the latest on Everything about Emily Osment.

Why do you think your site is so popular?
Aside from the popularity of Hannah Montana and sky rocketing career of Emily Osment, I think what makes the site popular is the unique design and use of bright colors. Majority of the target visitors are kids, bright colors, cool designs, interactivity and images catch the attention of young visitors.

How did you learn web design?
Before I learned web design, I was trained in hand-drawn arts and poster making using oil pastel. To widen my knowledge in arts, I wanted to make another step and learn computer graphics and designing. I explored the programs in my computer and taught my self everything I know right now.

Where do you get your images?
Images are from different sources. Some are sent by production companies as part of their advertising and promotion while the others are from different websites all over the internet.

What advice do you have for people who want to start a fansite?
Commitment, determination, balance and enjoy. Start a fansite right now only if think you can work on it tomorrow. It is not an easy thing to do but despite all the hard work, it would all be worth it when you get positive feedbacks and knowing that people appreciate your work. Balance everything, your life does not revolve in front of the computer, work on your fansite only if you have free time. Enjoy it, fansites should not be a pain for you, it is all about enjoying working on it not ruining your life.

Why did you decide to create a fansite for 'Emily Osment'?
Why not? Emily is a very talented actress that used to be known as “Haley Joel Osment’s younger sister”. She worked her way up in the acting business by not letting her brother’s big name overshadow her. Creating a fansite for her is without a doubt a great thing to do for her as a fan of hers and her brother. Both are equally talented and creating Emily Osment World is my way of saying that it is Emily Osment’s time to shine.

What's the most hits your site has had in a single day?
As for unique hits, the most that the site ever got is around 4,000 unique hits a day.

Your Favorite Thing About Your Celebrity(s):
Emily Osment is not afraid to express what she really thinks about certain things. She does not pretend that she likes something that she does not really like. In short, she is true to her self no matter what other what other people might think.

A Little History About Your Site:
Way back in 2002, Emily Osment World started as a small portion of my very first fansite Haley Joel Osment World. I have been a HUGE fan of Emily’s older brother and as she grew up I followed her career as a child star, I decided to make a separate fansite for Emily believing that she deserves to be recognized as an actress, not only Haley’s little sister. I worked on the site little by little until the success of the Hannah Montana series. The site grew bigger and bigger and is now the longest running fansite for Emily Osment.

The last one of my favorite sites is Miley Fans (www.mileyfans.net), a very dedicated fansite for the highly popular actress and singer, Miley Ray Cyrus. Amanda, the site creator and owner does an awesome job on updating the site with the latest news and pictures, and she has awesome layouts that are fun and always original.

Why do you think your site is so popular?
I think it's because I try to keep the site updated as much as I can with all the latest photos, videos, and tons of other stuff. So fans know they can keep coming back to the site to check for new updates. And the site has been open for over 2 years, so it's been a reliable source for Miley since almost the beginning of Hannah Montana.

How did you learn web design?
I was always fascinated by websites and wanted to learn how to make them, so I did a lot of searching for tutorials on making sites and designing layouts. I got Paint Shop Pro and started experimenting with making layouts and visited sites like lissaexplains.com to learn how to code them.

Where do you get your images?
I get them from a lot of different sources, sites like wireimage, and also a lot of fans donate pics they've taken or found.

What advice do you have for people who want to start a fansite?
My advice is to choose a celeb you are truly a fan of, so you will be interested in keeping the site updated, and have fun with it. Also, try to ignore any bad comments you might get, just keep working hard on the site, and it will be successful.

Why did you decide to create a fansite for 'Miley'?
I started watching Hannah Montana when it first started and looked online for info about the main actors. At first I wanted to create a site for the whole show, but decided to just stick to the main actor. And since there were only a couple of sites on Miley, I decided it would be fun to make my own.

What's the most hits your site has had in a single day?
Around 15,500 unique visitors in one day.

Your Favorite Thing About Your Celebrity(s):
I like that she is always happy and smiling. And she never lets anything get her down. She continues to act and sing, and make her fans happy, despite what other people might be saying about her.

A Little History About Your Site:
I first opened the site on April 20, 2006 and though it started out small, I kept posting updates, adding new pictures, videos, and tons of other things, so it grew even bigger. I hired Cindy as my co-web, and she's helped me keep up with updates, especially when I've been away.
