"The kind of magazine that would impress MacGyver." - Marcus Chan, San Francisco Chronicle
And MacGyver's eyes would bug out if he saw MAKE magazine's YouTube videos. With over 140,000 subscribers, their channel is clearly a place where the creative minds are at play on YouTube. Where else can you learn to make your own stylus pen for an iPad? Or experiment in the kitchen making homemade carbonated soda (with a yeast packet)? Seriously, a "weekend project" to these guys is creating a compressed air rocket. Unique crafts, geeky experiments, and original recipes define MAKE. Any scientific and imaginative mind can keep busy with hundreds of MAKE channel how-to's. A variety of intelligent people host MAKE mag videos, keeping the channel fresh and upbeat.
If you are not into science-y stuff this could be just the place to spark your interest. Who knows, you could become a famous scientist one day... And you can say it all started when you made an explosive pop bottle rocket out in the back yard.
Outside of YouTube:
If you get a little confused with their fast-paced videos, check out their website for full details on every project. There you can find podcasts, some rather geeky/lively discussion forums, their blog, and info on where to buy MAKE magazine. MAKE has been in print since February 2005. (In Japan, the mags on the stands are known as "mook" instead.) "Maker Shed" is a store that contains doo-dads, kits, and books to complete a few of their projects. To see more MAKE magazine, follow their Twitter and 'like' their Facebook fan page.
