Hey Britt! How are you?
I'm doing really great thanks!!!
You’re starring in the upcoming film, Freshman Father. Can you tell us a bit about the movie?
Freshman Father starts out as a story of young love and the challenges that come with raising a family young. It then turns into an inspiring story about how a single father beats the odds and is able to raise a baby and graduate Harvard with honourrs. Have your Kleenex handy...it’s definitely a bit of a tear jerker.
The film is based on a true story. Did that add extra pressure on you, the actors, to make it perfect?
It’s definitely a challenge when you know that your character is a real person. I think Drew had the biggest challenge though because his character John was portrayed more accurately in the film, The real John even came to visit the set. My character Kathy in the movie was apparently very different from the real Kathy, so I really didn't have too "study up" on the real Kathy when preparing for the role. It definitely would have been interesting to have met her and talked to her though. I don't believe she is in John or Adams life at all.
So you play Kathy. What is she like?
Kathy is a 17 year old prom queen who is madly in love. When she finds out she's pregnant things change very quickly. We really watch her grow up in the film. It’s interesting though cause you witness the entire length of the pregnancy. The mood swings, the cravings...everything! so you see all different sides of Kathy.
How do you feel about teenagers becoming parents?
Wow all I can say is they have their work cut out for them. I would have been an awful parent when I was a teenager haha. However I think it’s really quite amazing and inspiring when young people do make it work, and they CAN make it work. People often don't give teens enough credit. I had a friend in high school the got pregnant in grade 11 and she handled everything so beautifully. She had to grow up a lot quicker than the rest of us but she was - and is - one of the best mothers I’ve ever seen!

What was the most challenging aspect of this film for you?
The pregnant suit!! It gave me a little taste of how uncomfortable being pregnant can be. It was sooo heavy and we were shooting in the summer so I was got really hot and sweaty. It was so tight and realistic that it really started to feel like I was pregnant. I would find myself rubbing my belly, being all nurturing and then i would remember it was only a bunch of foam haha.
There are some very talented cast members. Was it an intense atmosphere, or were they friendly and helpful?
It was very friendly and helpful for the most part. Drew and I had lots of very intense scenes together so it was important for us to be supportive of each other. We also had the babies around all the time so the crew and cast really had to make sure it was a quiet, loving and safe environment.
Do you have any funny stories you can tell us from set?
I have a few!! We were shooting in this really cute neighborhood in Victoria and a lot of the crew and cast would go across the street to the local coffee shop. I decided to go get a caffeine boost forgetting I was 8 months pregnant. I ordered a triple cappuccino and the women just stared at me blankly and was like "caffeinated?" and I was like "ya of course". She looked disgusted with me and then I realised how pregnant and looked so I flipped up my shirt and showed her my fake foam belly. Another funny story was with one of the babies. In the scene I'm suppose to be stressed out cuz I can't get Adam to stop crying, John comes in to take over and try and help and Adam is suppose to stop crying. However it didn't quite work out as planned. Every time I was holding him he was giggling and happy and when I passed him to Drew he would start crying. I think we did something like 10 takes until we finally got it.
Confess! Was there any romance between yourself and your handsome co-star, Drew Seeley?
I don't mix business with pleasure. haha. Drew and I both have someone special already. His girlfriend even came to visit. It’s definitely awkward though when you are making out with someone else's boyfriend knowing they are watching in the other room. Drew is extremely respectful though which made the more intimate scenes a lot more comfortable.
When is the film coming out and what are you doing to celebrate its release?
The film comes out on June 5th! I’m in Vancouver at the moment so we won't even get too see the movie here yet! I guess I’ll have to go download it illegally online. Joking!
Describe your ideal day.
Camping. I’m out in nature every chance I get....or at a music festival.

What food can you not live without?
CHEESE. I love cheese, all cheese, any kind, any time, anywhere.
Tell us a random fact about yourself.
I’m a musician. I’m gonna start working on an album with summer which I’m really excited about.
How can fans contact you?
I’m out of the loop ...I don't have a Twitter or Facebook! I should probably get one though. People usually send letters to my agency the old snail mail way...but that’s sorta a dying art form. I think I’ll get a Facebook for fans soon...good idea!
