Today I’m very lucky to be having a chat with Cariba Heine, most famous for her role as Rikki on the hit tv show H2O: Just Add Water!

Hey Cariba! How are you doing today?
I’m very well, thanks.

So how did you start acting?
I kind of fell into acting through my dancing. My agent started sending me to acting castings and then I got H2O much to my surprise!

What was the audition like for the role of Rikki?
I actually did 3 auditions for the role of Rikki. I used to have to travel 3 hours for each casting and after the first audition I apologised to my dad for having to drive me the whole way because I thought it was so bad! So getting the first call back was pretty surprising. The last audition was actually in Queensland and they got us in the water in a tail to see how we’d go in the water without any proper mermaid training.

What was your reaction when you got the part?
I screamed like a little girl and then went and bought myself and a couple of friends big fat ice-cream sundaes then pretty much had to go home and start packing because we only had 10 days to move!

What are the similarities between yourself and Rikki?
I think Rikki and I are both pretty honest as people, though I’m not as blunt as her. She can be a little harsh sometimes! Other than that, we both like to observe people before we decide if we like them or not though Rikki has a huge wall to break through before she’ll call you a friend.

What’s the best thing about playing Rikki?
Rikki’s just a lot of fun to play, she’s got the little 1 liners and it’s always fun to be sarcastic! She’s also quite complex which makes her interesting for me.

What’s the worst thing?
Sometimes she can be a little too cynical, though I think she’s learning to trust people more and be a little more optimistic all round.

What’s the most fun thing you’ve ever had to do on set?
We had a really exciting scene in the first series where Zane and I had to sit in the middle of a ring of fire, I had a lot of fun that day.

Are you and the cast really close? Who’s the closest cast member?
We were all really lucky to have moved to the Gold Coast to film H2O because it meant that we all had each other to hang out with on the weekends and luckily we all got along! I’m actually sharing a house in Sydney now with Angus, Burgess and Jamie who play Lewis, Zane and Nate, they’re such fun boys!

What’s the most embarrassing thing that’s happened to you on set?
Luckily nothing really embarrassing has happened to me but of course I’ve fallen over in the middle of a scene and one time my skirt came undone in the middle of a scene and almost fell off!

Your character has an relationship with bad boy, Zane. Do you currently have a boyfriend?
I do have a boyfriend at the moment. He's lovely.

You’re actually a professional dancer. Do you prefer acting or dancing?
I’ve danced for a lot longer than I’ve acted so obviously I find dancing much more natural and easy but I can safely say I love acting now as well.

In the future, do you want to focus on acting or dancing?
I’d absolutely love to incorporate both of them but I’ll continue to do both separately until it doesn’t work anymore!

Do you have any future projects you’re working on?
I’m currently filming a surfing TV series here in Sydney so I’m back in the water again but this time I have legs! Mermaiding is soo much easier than surfing!!

Who do you most want to work with?
I’d love to work with Natalie Portman or Cate Blanchett, I have such enormous respect for them both. There’s a heap of Australian actors I’d love to work with as well.

And now onto more random questions about you, to help the readers get a taste of what Cariba Heine is really like!

What is your favourite…
Food- chocolate
Drink- grape fanta
Chocolate- dark with peppermint cream…mmm
Ice cream- chocolate
TV show- an Australian series called Love My Way or Extra’s
Website- YouTube has some golden videos!
Book- I’m reading Ricky Gervais’ biography right now which is interesting
Band/singer- Muse
Who would be your perfect date [celeb crush]? Brandon Boyd from Incubus

Describe your ideal date.
Something a little different like an open air cinema eating yummy Thai take away and then some chocolate ice cream of course and who can go past a twilight beach walk?!

What beauty tips can you give to regular teenagers who want to feel beautiful?
Sleep! It’s amazing what enough sleep will do to you as well as wearing a good suncreen as well.

Any beauty rituals or regimes you follow regularly?
I’m pretty good with my routine, I cleanse, tone and moisturise and I also wear sunscreen everyday, that seems to be enough to keep my skin looking good.

Cariba Heine

Describe yourself in 3 words.
Silly, easy to amuse, happy

If you were a super hero, who would you be?
Spider-man for sure…even though I’m terrified of spiders!

If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you go?
South America

What are your hobbies apart from acting and dancing?
Shopping, listening to music and just chilling out at home pretty much!

If you were stuck on a desert island with only three things, what would they be and why?
A chef complete with lots of tropical food, my closest friends and a GPS phone which I’d use when we ran out of food and wanted to go home eventually.

Tell me a secret![random fact about you]
I was born in South Africa.

What do you find more boring than watching paint dry?
Cleaning unless I’m in the mood to clean. I’m pretty lazy!

What’s the strangest thing you’ve had in your mouth?
A sea snail…eww!

How would you survive a crocodile attack?
Apparently they can’t run in circles so I’d basically just do that I guess, until it got bored with me!

What do you think makes the world go round?
Love for sure, it’s corny but I think it’s true.

If you had to choose, would you rather live without knee joints or elbow joints?
Haha we had this conversation on set last week and I decided on knees because you use your arms for more intricate stuff than your legs for day to day stuff.

Do you have a myspace? If yes, what is it? Or how can fans contact you?
I don’t have a myspace but I think H2O has its own, though we have nothing to do with that so writing letters is best so that I receive them.

Thanks so much Cariba! =)
