Acting career

Dana Davis

How did your acting career start?
I started acting when I was seven years old. My mom took me to this children’s theatre called Showtime Pal in the city I grew up in. I was pretty mesmerized by it all and begged her to find out how I could do it. I just wanted to be on stage…It was oddly comfortable. Felt like I should’ve been up there even though I was just watching. So I joined at seven and have been doing it ever since. I didn’t make the move to LA until I was 18 to pursue professionally.

What are the best parts/worst parts of acting?
The best part of acting of course is that you get to share your work with the world. You get to bless someone. Make someone laugh or cry or just give them a moment to get away from self and get lost in a great story. The worst part of acting is the constant hustle for work. It’s like…as soon as a job ends you’re unemployed again and you have to start auditioning and driving all over LA to different meetings. I feel like I’ve spent my entire career auditioning. I always tell people I’m a professional auditioner.

What future projects can we expect you in?
Well I’ll be finishing up my work with Heroes in Season 3 so be sure to look out for that! And of course the Sony/Screen Gems thriller Prom Night which hits theatres April 11th.

Coolest celeb you’ve met?
Denzel Washington probably. I did a table read for him and was so impressed by his professionalism and sweet spirit. You don’t expect fabulously talented and famous people to be so down to earth…but alas…some are!

Who are your role models and why?
My role models are the people in this world that work hard. I love seeing that. Crew members, agents, managers, even when I go to a store and a person goes out of their way to help me and I can see they really love their job and it’s important to them. I admire that and look up to it. People who work hard sooo impress me.

How do you balance your acting career and your regular life?
I don’t!! It’s hard because to be in this business you sort of have to make your career your life. I think when you become more established and gain more success you get the freedom to pick and choose more and be more laid back from job to job. I look forward to that happening.

What advice would you give upcoming actors?
I would say surround yourself with genuine people, because this business is tough and sometimes heartbreaking. You need good people to build you up. And I’d also say sit back and enjoy the ride…because it’s going to be a long one. A very long one. Did I mention long? ?

Heroes

Dana with the other new "Heroes" characters

Best moment during filming?
Probably when I smeared fake blood all over Noah Gray Gabey and then he retaliated with the classic peanut butter on my trailer door.

Worst moment during filming?
When the stunt crew tried to teach me to do some kinda weird flip thing outside on a rock hard mat. It was like a thousand degrees outside, I was so hot my face felt like it was melting off and it was in between shooting a really important scene! I just couldn’t do it and everyone was kinda looking at me like…well you better hurry up and learn! Luckily my stunt girl saved the day.

Most embarrassing moment on set?
Hmm…probably when I had to crouch down all “secret agent spy” kinda like mission impossible style and my knees sorta gave out like an old woman and I was just sitting there on the floor going “ow…ow.” Not very mission impossible…not very cool. Definitely embarrassing.

Ever had a Crush on someone on set?
I had a crush on one of our guest stars, but I’m so shy. I never said anything.

Dana with "Heroes" co-star Noah Gray-Cabey

Favourite person you worked with?
Probably Noah who plays Micah. He’s such a sweetheart.

Favorite episode filmed?
The first one; episode 204, by far my favourite.

In what ways are you similar to Monica?
Wow…too many to count. Monica and I both put others before ourselves. Both very genuinely affected by other people’s pain. Both would give up a lot to help the people we love and we both would fight off a robber with a 619 kick through a glass partition. Go Monica!

What’s the hardest part about playing Monica?
Probably wearing that burger bonanza outfit. The rest is easy and so much fun.

Favourites

Food Trader Joe’s Organic 3 cheese pizza!
Soda I don’t drink soda…
Candy Sour skittles
Ice cream I’d say vanilla with strawberries and gram crackers

Dating

Dana at the Prom Night premier

What do you look for in a guy?
Abs of steel? Just kidding. I look for someone who’s genuine and not impressed by this industry; someone who likes the simple things in life. Like popcorn and movie nights at home.

Are you single?
Yep!

What’s the most romantic thing someone has done for you?
Nothing! No one has ever been romantic with me…sad huh!?

Who would be your perfect date [celeb crush]?
I’ve had a long time crush on Giovanni Ribisi. Shhh don’t tell him.

Style

Describe your style:
I’m kinda conservative with a bohemian flair. Like I’ll rock some dress shorts but make it a little funky with a colorful top and funky type jewellery. Cute n classy is my fashion tag line.

Favourite outfit?
One of my short cotton summer skits with a warm and comfy sweatshirt and sandals.

Any beauty tips?
Always have chap stick handy. Dry lips are BAD.

Random/Personal

Describe yourself in 3 words.
Genuine, sensitive and silly.

If you were a super hero, who would you be?
Superman. I’d save a ton on airline tickets.

Dana in Prom Night

If you could go anywhere, where would you go?
Probably some remote island that has those little villas/cottages on the water with a special friend.

What are your hobbies?
I love to write, indoor rock climbing is fun too.

If you were stuck on a desert island with only three things, what would they be and why?
1. A toothbrush/toothpaste, just because you’re on a desert island..doesn’t mean you should ignore your oral hygiene! ?
2. Soap. And
3. A really hot guy.

Tell me a secret!
Well then it wouldn’t be a secret anymore…?

What’s your Favourite quote?
“We are the music makers and we are the dreamers of dreams…” by Mr. Willy Wonka himself!

What do you find more boring than watching paint dry?
Looking through people’s photo albums. It’s like…um who is that? And who is that? And who is that? I don’t know these people!!!

What’s the strangest thing you’ve had in your mouth?
raw eggplant juice.

How would you survive a crocodile attack?
Assuming this is pretend…then I would wrestle it to the ground and tie it’s mouth shut with palm tree leaves. Or I would just run like mad.

What do you think makes the world go round?
Um…really strong winds?

If you had to choose, would you rather live without knee joints or elbow joints?
Can I live without a head and walk around with just arms and legs and scare people?

Do you have a myspace? If yes, what is it?
www.myspace.com/danadthasme

How can fans contact you?
Myspace is always easy. But beware…I check it like once a month so sometimes I can’t always reply in a timely manner. But I always try!
