Please introduce yourself.
Hello…my name is Dean Delannoit, I’m 19 years old and I’m from Belgium.

Do you write your own songs?
I co-write them with my producers.

What inspires the song?
Mostly things that happen in my life.

So do you write in Dutch and translate to English?
No. I studied languages at school so I understand English fully and can write it, so we just write in English straight away.

Are you working on an album right now?
Yeah! It’s really fun! It will hopefully come out in 2009.

Do you enjoy recording or performing more?
That’s really difficult. I love both! But I guess performing because that’s the biggest part of my job and I love it!!

Have you ever had any embarrassing moments on stage?
Yeah! Sometimes I forget my lyrics which is quite embarrassing…oh and one time, when I was just starting out, I almost fell of stage! But the audience seemed to find it funny so it wasn’t too bad…

What do you do when you forget your lyrics??
I try to fill the sentence with other words…and sometimes they don’t even exist in the dictionary! I just try to make it comfortable for the audience…I don’t want it to be awkward.

Do you get nervous before a performance?
Sometimes, but most of the time I’m quite comfortable with performing. When I’m live on television or when I’m live on radio stations, that’s exciting and nerve wracking. Most of the time, I stay calm and try to perform to my best ability.

Isn’t it scary standing on a stage, looking at hundreds of people, and singing?
Yeah but it’s not like in America. In America the audience can get up to 10 000 people but here, it’s only about 500-2000 people here in Belgium. We have a few festivals here as well, though most of them are for rock and heavy metal bands. There are a few pop festivals so hopefully next year or the year after I’ll be able to perform in them.

You’re really quite famous in Belgium right now. Are you going to start promotion in other countries and attempt going global?
Well at this time it’s quite difficult to actually go to different countries. We first have to write a few new songs that hopefully will be liked globally. I’m just trying to perform here in Belgium right now and increase my audience. And then, we’ll hopefully travel to other countries too!!

If you were giving one piece of advice to aspiring singers what would it be?
Be yourself and try to perform to the best of your abilities. Do your thing and let the others say whatever they want. Just be yourself and believe in yourself.

Spiderman!!

If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you go?
The USA!

What are your hobbies?
I play football, tennis, running and SQUASH! Oh and I play the guitar.

What position do you play in football?
Middlefield! All the running!

Tell me a secret!
When I was 5, I was attacked by a German shepherd and I have scars on my face from it.

So are you scared of dogs since then?
No I actually have a German shepherd myself…Ha ha!

If you were stuck on a desert island with only 3 things, what would they be?
My bed, my girlfriend and shampoo! Must stay clean…

What is your secret addiction?
I guess playing poker online…I’m not very good though!!

What irrationally annoys you?
People who get jealous…

Are people jealous of you ever since you won Pop Idol?
Yeah, quite a few people. At first I couldn’t understand why and it really bothered me, but now I’ve learnt to ignore them.

What’s your most treasured possession?
Probably my laptop and my mobile…

Oh are you a computer nerd?
No! I just use it to check my emails and go on Facebook and interact with fans!
