Dominique Saldana

Hi Dominique. Thanks for doing the interview with Portrait Magazine. How are you today?
I’m great! How are you?

You’ve been busy promoting your latest film; ‘Unaccompanied Minors’. Could you tell us a little about the film and what it was like filming it?
Well, the movie is about six kids getting stuck in an airport on Christmas Eve and their parents are divorced so they’re flying to the other parent alone. The kids work together to get out of the airport and find me to make sure I was OK and that I had a good Christmas.
It was so much fun filming the movie. The director, Paul Feig, was awesome. He made every day fun. I loved playing football on set too with Michael, the producer. I got really good at football.

Did you make any good friends with the other young cast members?
It was so great working with all the other kids and Wilmer too. All of us became really close because we all stayed in Salt Lake City for two months together. We played tennis with Brett Kelly and his sister Jaqualine. The producers set up a private game of lazer tag for the whole cast and our families, all my sisters got to come. WE all hung out a lot. My mom and I went on secret missions to surprise Wilmer and Tadao (his friend) with special gifts we made in our hotel room. Now that we are back in California, my sisters and I still do secret missions to Wilmer’s house. Tyler and his brothers came to my birthday party and we also met up with Gina and Dyllan to have diner. I was so glad to see everyone again at the premiere.

Your sisters, including your twin, also act. What made your family decide to go into the business?
My sister Gracie wanted to start acting when she was four so she got her first commercial right away and then me and my twin sister Antoinette started auditioning and we loved it so we have been working since we were three years old. Antoinette has done like 25 commercials!

What was your first acting job?
My first acting job was a commercial called “Tiger” for H & M Department stores. I got to pretend to be a tiger and play in the clothes.

Of the various acting projects you’ve done so far; which would you say was your favorite and why?
Unaccompanied Minors was the best! I got to be with a lot of great people and I just had so much fun!

You’re eight years old. How do you handle schoolwork and acting? Do you attend a normal school or have a tutor?
I attend a normal public school but when I was in Utah I had a set teacher named Judy. She was really nice. I really don’t have any problems acting and doing schoolwork, it’s pretty easy.

You’ve done a number of voice over roles in addition to live action. Which do you prefer?
I like doing live action because I have a lot of energy and I get to meet the director and work with cool people.

What is your dream acting job? Is there a particular type of film you would really enjoy starring in?
My dream job is an action adventure movie with lots of kids. I would also love to do a mystery TV series, that would be really cool.

Outside of acting what are some of your favorite things to do?
My whole family plays soccer and I like to do gymnastics and jump on my new trampoline I got from Santa for Christmas.

Thanks for your time. Anything you’d like to say before finishing off?
Thank you for interviewing me about my life and Unaccompanied Minors.
