Drew Seeley

Would you care to introduce yourself?
Hey! I’m Drew Seeley. I’m an actor/singer/song-writer and right now I’m on the road with the HSM tour. And yeah…I’m just calling in to answer any questions you might have!

What got you into acting?
I started acting when I was probably 11. My dad was in opera and my mum is a choreographer so musical theatre has always been something I’ve been brought up in. From a young age, they got me into it and my first real acting gig was when I was 11 years old. I did a show right before it went to Broadway for a year and caught the bug. Ever since then I’ve been pursuing it.

Since you act and sing, which do you prefer and why?
Well I’m spoilt rotten right now because I get to do both. I’ve had more experience lately with singing. I’ve had a lot of good fortune with that and had some good projects coming out; the Cheetah Girls, the movie Jump, etc and I’m working on an album for myself now. So I think I’m more comfortable with singing.

Are you planning to continue with both in the future?
Yes! Definitely!

Who are your role models and why?
Obviously my parents because they’ve been supporting me since day 1, they are my biggest role models. George Michael, Prince, Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, Donnie Hathaway, a lot of old artists.

What are your passions/concerns for the world?
Basic human rights is the most important thing because in a lot of countries people can’t do what they want to do and speak what they really feel without getting punished. I think that is the saddest thing that’s going on. I’m grateful that I live in a society where I have the freedom to express myself and have my ideas heard otherwise I wouldn’t be able to be a singer and actor and do the things I do. So that’s my biggest concern for the world, that everyone can express themselves freely.

Describe yourself in 3 words.
Impatient. Always Hungry. Grateful.

Who are the coolest people you’ve met?
Not to sound corny but the HSM cast and everyone else involved. They’ve been absolutely amazing, and they’re all so talented in their own way. Everybody has their own set and does their own music. They’re really a great, talented set of performers.

If you could do anything for one day, what would it be?
I would fly around the world. And uh…well I’d be able to fly! So I’d fly around the world…and I’d go skiing in the Alps.

What was your audition for HSM like?
It was really casual. As far as for singing, I already worked with some of the people so it was more like a sit-down meeting than an audition. They just kinda told me what they needed and I was like yeah I can do that! It went on from there.

Are you really close with the HSM cast?
Yup! We’re like peas in a pod!

Describe your daily routine now that you’re on tour.
I usually sleep in until noon or 1pm. Sounds lazy but when you consider what we do, then the rest of the day is not. I get to the venue at about 3pm to do a sound check and then we start getting ready for the show. We make sure everything is where it needs to be for the show and then put the show on! As soon as that’s over, we get on the bus and we drive about 200 miles to the next city, and then finally get to the hotel at like 6am the next day and go to sleep around 6:30am. That’s why we sleep till about 1pm! Because then we have to go to the venue and do the show again!

If you could change something about your life, what would it be?
It’s very unplanned; I’ve no idea what I’ll be doing next month! I know it’s going to be music related or acting related but everything is very up in the air. I’m very spontaneous and I like to, when an idea comes to me, not to think it through too much and talk myself out of it. So uh yeah, I like to take chances!

How does it feel to be a role model?
It’s amazing! It’s inspiring! I kinda still don’t think that I can do that, that I have the opportunity to do that. It’s crazy to get letters and fanmail and people asking me questions for advice! That’s the craziest thing! People writing to me and asking me how to get into music and acting and what do I need to do in this situation, how do I make my vocal range bigger etc. It’s all wow to me because sometimes I am asking myself the same questions. It’s pretty flattering and I can’t believe I get the chance to do it.

Do you answer your fanmail?
I get through as much of it as I possibly can. It’s getting harder by the day because I only have a certain amount of time so I definitely read everything but I don’t personally get back to everything. I mean I try to and do if I can.

Tell me a random fact about you.
I’m Canadian, born and raised in Canada. Still a permanent alien in the States.
I worked at a Chinese restaurant last year.
I have a room mate who’s a record producer so we have a studio in our house. We do a lot of writing and recording in our living room.

What’s the nicest thing a fan has ever said to you?
Just that I’ve inspired them to really start pursuing a career and someone sent me in the mail, I’ve decided that after seeing you perform, that that’s what I want to do and now I want to be a singer and I want to act. The fact that they want to do that from watching me, and knowing that I’m an inspiration, that’s crazy! Pretty cool!

What do you look for in a girl?
I look for a lot of things! You have to be able to hold a conversation, looks definitely are important but they’re not everything! I need someone that can make me laugh, that’s a good talker, a good listener, be good fun.

Describe your perfect day.
Sitting out on the beach, relaxing all day. Going swimming, eating some shrimp and listening to music with my guitar. My guitar will have to be on the beach. That’s my perfect day [boy will Drew love Greece! Haha]

How can people contact you?
I have a website, www.drewseeley.net where you can e-mail me from and also myspace, www.myspace.com/drewseeley. You can go there and write me messages and leave comments. Like I said before, I read everything! I go through everything myself! I get back to as much as I can. But you can definitely get to me that way! And there’s a message board that just went up too! So if you have questions, instead of everyone asking me the same questions a million times you can post it there and I’ll answer it!
