You’re one of the stars of the movie called ‘The Kids Are Alright.’ Could you tell us a bit about the film?
It's a film about a family living in Los Angeles . There are two kids, a son and a daughter, but the parental structure is skewed. There are two mothers. In my opinion, this film is a breath of fresh air. It's unique to see the structure to the family of "the new age." The premise is that the daughter is moving away to college and her younger brother confronts her about wanting to meet their biological father, an event which changes all their lives. I play the best friend to the son who is also the antagonist and likes to stir things up.
What was the experience like playing the antagonist to Laser?
- Being given the chance to portray this character was pretty awesome. It was a lot of fun to play and I feel like I learned a lot from this film.
Did you have any challenges with this role?
- No, I didn't find any real challenges, I actually found that playing this character came to me with ease. I've met plenty of people in California that emulate Clay.
Do you have embarrassing or funny memories from the set of this film?
-Actually, yes! There was one scene in the movie where Josh Hutcherson and I get into a fight. As we were doing the choreography for the fight I accidently punched him in the face! He was really cool about it, but I still felt pretty bad.
This movie looks a lot at the role of a father, and more specifically a biological father. How do you feel about artificial insemination and the role a biological father should play in his child’s life?
- In my opinion, artificial insemination is really the catalyst to those parents who yearn for the love a child. A "biological father" isn't always what is necessary, but the love of great parents, in the end, is what matters most.
Apart from this movie, what other upcoming projects do you have?
- I'm in another film called The Family Tree, which comes out this summer. Keep an eye out for it.
Rumor has it that you’re in a band. Are you planning to pursue a musical career as well as acting?
-I love making music but I'm putting all of my energy into my acting career right now and I'm gonna see where that takes me, but maybe one day.
Which do you prefer, acting or music?
- I love both but acting is definitely my main passion.
Apart from that, what do you like doing in your spare time?
-I like to surf and skateboard and I go to the gym everyday, I'm actually working on becoming a personal trainer.
Has it been difficult for you to balance your career and your personal life and interests?
-yeah sometimes it can get pretty crazy trying to balance gym, class, friends, family, business but somehow I seem to make it work ha ha.
Acting involves a lot of rejection. How have you learnt to cope with that?
-I guess it goes back to some advice my mom gave me as a kid to keep moving forward and do what I have to do to follow my dream and not give a darn what people think.
What makes you happy?
-being with my friends and family the people who mean most to me.
And finally, how can fans contact you? (facebook, twitter, website)
-soon there will be a fan facebook/twitter that fans check out and I will do my best to check the site regularly.
