Eileen Boylan

Please introduce yourself
Hey! My name is Eileen Boylan.

How did you get into acting?
Well when I was young, I attended this commercial work shop but that didn’t really do anything apart from get my picture. However after that someone came up to us and told us all about this real work shop and we went and ate cereal and tried to sell products. I was about 9 and an actual agent wanted me. It’s crazy now that I think back! So anyway I started doing small modeling jobs, leaving school early and meeting new people etc but I didn’t really understand acting until I was about 13. I was like oh man I get this and it started meaning more to me than trying to sell things with my face. And yeah.

Who are your role models and why?
Well obviously my parents are huge role models for me just because they’ve given up so much for their kids and family. I really respect that! I know that’s really cliché but they have done so much for me so it’s an obvious choice. I look up to them a lot. Then career wise I really look up to Kate Blanchett and Meryl Streep. I am not sure they’re my role models but I really look up to them and respect them so maybe, I guess. How they apply their work and themselves to their work is really wonderful and they remain true to who they are and don’t sell out for any reason. They’re brilliant but also my parents.

What has been your favourite role to play?
I did this little independent film that hasn’t come out yet. It was low budget and had drama with the post production. I don’t know what’s going to happen but the role was really hard and a stress for myself but excellent. It was a film about kids living on the streets in Venice and I played a girl who was sexually and physically abused by her father and being in a single parent house hold and just all being abused. That provoked her to run away and she’s an 18 year old girl living on the street and she discovers her sexuality by living with a group of homeless kids. It’s just, the whole story is about finding your happiness and all those things, and it’s really a political story and to connect someone, such a damaged person, and to connect themselves with my role. That’s why I act. To allow people to see new worlds and worlds they wouldn’t have an opportunity to see. Having the opportunity to allow people to see this community and for such a good message, was ridiculously awesome and it sucks because the movies that say important things, they don’t come out because they don’t have the funding to create a huge audience. It sucks but just being able to play that part for myself was really wonderful. I had to live in those circumstances and I became friends with real homeless people and a whole community. We became really close and I’ll never forget this experience and all those people ever.

What are your concerns for the world?
I have quite a few…I see so much potential and light that’s available in the world. There’s so much great natural beauty that we can really see within the world and I think it’s been totally overrun by consumerism and this false idea of living than actually living and it’s so sad because all of those things are taking they’re toll on moral value and what was once a tactic to bring the world to a more united place has back fired with the backing with the major corporations. The constant running of everything that’s working and contributing to the rise of prosperous things that people find important. I think that the value of what is seen as important has really diminished is really unfortunate and people are so distracted to things that aren’t real anymore! It’s just sad because there’s so much reality but as we get deeper and deeper in this rabbit hole, it slowly disappears more and more. In order for you to rise again, you have to fall so I think that’s what’s happening currently with the environment and with the world. It’s depressing to watch because something like that is not out of reach and everyone can make a difference but at the same time it’s spiraling out of control to a point that you as an individual can make a personal choice but you can’t be responsible to people who don’t want to change. So it’s frustrating to see people who don’t want to be responsible for whatever it is they believe in or a change they want to see or even having their own opinion. But I have faith in it…it’s just annoying.

Describe yourself in three words
Explodes with laughter!

Who are the coolest people you’ve met through acting?
Oh gosh I’ve met so many cool people! My manager for sure! She’s a beautiful, amazing person and her family is my family! Her husband was my first acting teacher! They have changed my life and they are just wonderful, inspirational people who I love with all my heart! Some of my best friends I actually meet in my acting class within the last two years. They are so wonderful and so ridiculously amazing and have changed my life. My three best friends right now. My other best friends too. But mostly my three best friends and my managers family.

Have you had any embarrassing moments on set?
Hm… I don’t get embarrassed too much but I was working on the set of Dakota Sky in Arizona and every time I’m out of my normal habitat, I always get really tired. I don’t know why! I think it’s because I’m not within the city and my house and I’m forced to relax because I’m not forced to think about the every day things that I usually do. So anyway I get really tired. I was asleep for 90% of that movie! I would just fall asleep randomly and they’d wake me up every 5 minutes. It became an on going joke about my sleeping!

What’s your daily routine like?
Right now I go to school every day except Friday so i never go to sleep early though I should…I wake up around 7, go to school. I’m done around 11. I’ll study or go to an audition or study for acting class or reading. Then later at night I go back to school or acting class. Then Fridays I don’t have school so Thursday nights I usually go home and sleep and hang out with my friends. My days aren’t really planned out. Those are the only things I do. Morning school, study, school. Things pop up now and then so I don’t plan stuff. I shower too! And I go to the bathroom sometime during the day too! Haha! I have the smallest bladder in the world so I’m always going to the bathroom! Anyway you didn’t need to know that.

What has been the toughest thing to do in your life?
I think acting and my family. Not that they’re difficult but it’s just feeling that after separating away from them and having to balance your life, make decisions etc. that’s really hard. But I’m really close to my family so I try to remain close to them as much as possible though its hard. Acting by far has been the biggest challenge of my life because I’ve been a part of it for so long and as far as the business goes, it gets really consuming and rather awful! It can really diminish someone! Watching it corrode so many people I know, it’s awful! I don’t know why people want to get into it! I just know so many people that want to do acting because of the life style but it’s the most awful business so why would you want to be a part of it? But I understand as an actor where you want to stand and why you want to take part in such a beautiful art. It’s just so hard because you’re trying to stay true and honest but it’s surrounded in a world of artifice! It’s completely contradictory and ironic! You try to stick with it and remain true to yourself and everyone tells you to be someone else! I find I get really put off sometimes! And acting sometimes too because you constantly have to be inventing yourself and discovering! To work in a business where everything is so systematic, it’s easy to develop a machinery of what you do. That’s the death of an actor because you have to find the moment right there and then! Preparing it from before you go and just sitting in it is awful! If you create this machinery for yourself, the art just evaporates and its death! And to try and incorporate the normal life! There are so many things attached to it!

Describe the craziest thing you’ve done!
I drove to Arizona from LA for a day to get a burrito then came back right after.

How do you balance your career and your normal life?
It's hard, but the wonderful people surrounding me help keep me in check with constant reminders to stay focused. I'm still struggling with the balance though, trying to be in school and manage a career at the same time aint easy.

What are your hobbies?
I really like reading when I get the chance. It's one of my favorite things. I love being with my best friends and family, too. They run high on my hobby list :) And of course acting!

Tell me a secret!
I have three tattoos.

Do you have a myspace for fans? If yes, what is it?
I actually don't have a myspace for fans. I know there are a few myspace’s that are made by some fans, but I'm not affiliated with them unfortunately. My personal one is pretty private and I don't usually add fans because I guess I try to stay low key in that sense… but I guess if I need to in the future I'll consider making one. For now, though; no.

How can people contact you?
I actually don't have a set place to contact me at this exact moment, but if you send any mail to Noggin I'm sure they'll forward it to me. You can get their info on their website...

How does it feel to be a role model of so many people out there?
Ooh, that's a pretty intimidating question. I believe that anyone who speaks their mind with honesty and integrity is a role model and since I try to do that with the people I connect with on a daily basis I guess I will take the "role model" identification welcomingly. It feels rather wonderful to know that my voice has the power to inspire many. I don't think, however, that that inspiration is limited to my voice alone. I believe everyone has this kind of power, it's simply recognizing it that makes the difference. Since I notice this, life feels like a true adventure and I'm willing to rise and fall every step of the way.
So, I guess it feels awesome.

What’s the nicest thing a fan has said to you?
I haven't had very many run-ins with fans, but I do get plenty of myspace messages and letters. One person told me that they really connected with my character, and I know that may seem like a small compliment, but that makes me feels so amazing. I act to connect with people so if someone watches my work and connects with it then that is one hell of a compliment to me.

Tell us a random fact about you
I do the robot a lot.

What do you look for in a guy?
