PW: Can you start by telling us a little about yourselves?
TGG: Jay Way: Guitars
Austin Sorich: Drums/Percussion
Colin Simson: Vocals
Tony Freddo: Bass
We are music lovers... From different corners of the country we found each other out here and managed to create something that we are all proud of...Something that utilizes all of our favorite musical influences as well as our strengths as individuals... We are constantly learning from each other...and becoming stronger everyday. The Gravity Guild stems from the mutual passion for all things rock. Formed after discovering our shared love for rock, we blend classic melodies with the more complex ideas of today's heavier music creating what is now the most promising band in Los Angeles.
PW: Tell us a little about the album you are working on.
TGG: We've just finished our self-titled debut album after working on it for over two years. We're extremely proud to reveal all that we've been working on and even more relieved for this arduous process to be culminating. We had a lot of great people helping us along the way making this project sound unique. We utilized some old recording techniques that bands today don't use with digital recording.
PW: Do you write your own songs also?
TGG: Absolutely! No cover tunes here...
PW: What song out of all your songs so far is your guys' favorite?
TGG: I think each of us would have a different answer for that one...But truthfully we stand behind all of our songs. We blend epic guitar riffs, thoughtful lyrics, heavy drum grooves and melodic bass lines in every tune.
PW: So who are some of your guys' influences?
TGG: Early 90's rock is definitely in our roots. Bands like Soundgarden, AIC, STP all paved the way...Of course no rock band can deny the influence of classic rock bands like Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath...I firmly believe however that all music is influential. Even bands that you don't like can have an effect on what or how you write.
PW: Are you guys planning on doing any tours any time soon?
TGG: We're currently planning a tour of Southern California to promote this album. Hopefully we can expand our scope in the near future.
PW: What is your favorite part: the writing, recording, or performing live and why?
TGG: Again I think each of us would have a different answer for that one...The energy at live shows far exceeds the writing or recording process though. I think that's why most musicians do what they do...To rock out in front of a sea of fans!
PW: How did you all start the band?
TGG: Jay and Austin began playing and writing together in Hollywood after meeting at school. Colin found their add online and auditioned in 2003. Tony completed the line up joining in 2005.
PW: How long has the band been together?
TGG: Jay and Austin have been playing for years. Our current line up has been together for a solid year.
PW: If you had to give one piece of advice to aspiring bands/singers what would it be?
TGG: For bands: Don't force it! Playing in a band should be fun. Enjoy the collaborative process and play with people that you vibe with. Music is a language and you've got to play with people who understand the way you speak it.
For singers: Be yourself. Drawing inspiration from your influences and idols is important but sounding exactly like them is boring. Listen to what your band mates are putting out there and add to it your interpretation of what you hear. Then you'll develop an organic sound like no one else.
PW: Thank you all for the interview! Anything you want your fans to know?
TGG: Thank you!!!
