JL:Since I was 3 years old, you can see a video of me singing "My Heart Will Go On" from the movie
the Titanic. It was my birthday and I just turned 3 years old. My dad
put me in my car seat and put the CD on and I started singing
the song. My dad put the video on YouTube.
Do you write your own music?
JL:Yes, I began writing compositions when I
was around 8 years old. My dad bought me a microphone
and an amplifier and then I started writing words when I turned 9.
Are you with a record company?
JL: No. But I hope to be one day. I have
a manager from New York. When he heard me the first time
on myspace, he flew out to California to meet with my mom and dad and
me.
Do you get home schooled?
JL: No. I go to a public school, I like it
because all of my friends go there.
Is it difficult to maintain your schedule between studies and music?
JL:It is a little hard to maintain my schedule and I have a lot
going on during the week. I take voice on Monday, piano on Friday and I am reshearsing for a musical play which is 19 weeks. I do this every Sunday. I have
to study Monday through Friday and when I am done I usually
sit at my piano and play. On Saturday I play outside.
Would you give it all up if you could and wait a little longer?
JL: No
way! I love creating music. It makes me feel good when I see what
people write to me. They like my songs and that makes me want to keep
creating more music.
Was this something you wanted or your parents?
JL: Me. My dad played the
guitar when he was younger and he always played and sang
to me when I was a baby. He played a lot of classical music too like
Mozart, Beethoven, Vivaldi and Chopin. So I grew up just loving
music.
Have you gotten to travel outside the U.S.A and if so where?
JL: Yes, not
for my music, but our family goes on vacation every year. We have
been to Fiji, Rarotonga, Aitutaki, and just two months ago we took an
Alaskan cruise.
What is the best thing about singing?
JL: I get to express myself and
emotions through my music.
