Jillian Riscoe

Would you care to introduce yourself?

Hey everyone! My name is Jillian Riscoe and I am a singer/songwriter. I am 17 years old and the style of music I write and sing is rock/pop with an alternative edge. I love all types of music though. :)

What got you into singing?

Honestly, I've just always remembered loving to sing. The more I performed, recorded and wrote, the more I wanted to pursue it.

Why is it your passion?

This may sound cliché, but it's just what I love to do. :) In my opinion, music is something that connects with people on a totally different level than much else and to get others connect to something you felt and put in a song is awesome.

If you could do anything else, what would it be and why?

Anything else? It would still be something in the entertainment industry! :D Maybe to work at a record label, being an A & R...I think that would be an interesting job because you'd constantly be able to listen to all different types of talent, on all different levels.

Why should people listen to your music?

Cause' it rocks! :P I think people should listen to my music because it is unique, fun and the kind of music people of all ages can connect to...simple as that. :D

Why did you choose music as a career?

Music is something that I love to do, want to do, work hard at and is my life. I turn to it for everything and anything...I couldn't see myself doing anything else.

What are your inspirations when you work?

Musically, it ranges from a tiny indie rock band to the biggest pop superstar. My list goes on forever! I feel like a get a little bit of inspiration from every song I listen to. Any situation that I've personally gone through is where I get all of my real inspiration though.

What is your process for song-writing?

Most of the time, I'll scribble something down after something just happened that inspired me, that way, it's in the moment and exactly what I was feeling. Currently, I'm collaborating with a very talented musician and we sit down, go through the lyrics, the melody, and then work on the music. It's really cool to have this process because you can feed off each other and get all the details fixed.

What are the ups and downs of the business in your opinion?

I believe that it is one of the hardest businesses to break into, but I strongly believe if you really have what it takes, have a good support system behind you, focus, dedication, and go for any opportunity you find/that is available to you, every connection...I believe you'll find success, so reach for it!! :) Sorry for the long list, haha! ;)

What are your hopes for 2007?

Some hopes and goals of mine for 2007 would to be to get my music out there, have others enjoy and connect to it, create new opportunities in all aspects of what I do and to rock 2007!! :D

Who are your role models and why?

Most definitely my parents. They are sweet, supportive and so strong. I also have several great friends who I'm amazed by and love them for everything. And of course I have that endless list of musical inspirations! haha. :)
