Justin Lanning

Can you please introduce yourself?
My name is Justin Lanning, I’m from Los Angeles, California and I’m here to serve and play music.

What got you into music?
I’ve always been a big fan of music! I love music! I have a huge music collection. I talk myself piano and guitar when I was about 12 and then it started changing into song-writing and performing.

How did you choose what genre of music to perform?
Basically over time, it evolved from hard rock punk songs, to beautiful love songs that have great melody and a sound that is my passion and my favourite stuff. Pop, melodic rock.

Who plays the instruments in your music?
I play the majority of the instruments; I play the piano and the guitar. I’ve a lot of production work! I also play bass and drums. There have been other musicians on the record but live, I rotate pretty much all the instruments.

Why should people be encouraged to listen to your music?
Because it rocks! Because there’s nobody like me! I’m one of a kind and I’m the real deal! And I love my fans; I really think that my fans are just amazing. I want to give as much as possible to my fans and people that are interested in my music! That’s exactly what I’m going to do.

What are your hopes for 2007?
To blow up! To literally blow up and explode into flames! Nah! To have a lot of fun! I think that fun is the key ingredient, so just to put my record out there and to get a great response! Also tour the world and to keep working on my tv show and just have a lot of fun!

What are your inspirations when you work?
My inspirations are love, heart break, just life in general. The bad side of life, the good side of life, the beautiful side of life, pretty much everything. I lead a pretty intense life and I use those experiences to fuel my music.

What’s your inspiration for songs?
Pretty much all the above, but I mean more personal stuff like my direct love life. All the craziness that has happened and just all my personal experiences. Like I say on my myspace, my songs are directly inspired by love and truth and all the real stuff that goes on with me. That’s my music.

Who are your role models and why?
Bonno, I love Bonno! John Lennon. Super Man. Uma Therman because I love Small Ville!

If you could be any super hero for a day, who would you be?
I would be an X-Men for sure because I’m obsessed with X-Men. I would be Gimbit. Gimbit is a character they didn’t put in the movies but he’s a cool guy that flings cards and things at people and stuff. He’s really cool! If I had to be a known super hero, I guess I’d be Spiderman. I could shoot webs and fly around.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
I see myself producing records and having my own label. Developing talent, writing and reporting, putting out records and doing my TV show, doing a film, having a clothing line and having fun! Living near the beach and just having a blast!

If you could work with anyone or any band, who would it be?
I think I’d work with Max Martin or Rick Rubin. He’s just brilliant! These are producers by the way. Their work is amazing. They really capture the artist at their most beautiful point and I just think they really have a good grasp on the whole thing I guess. But if there was a band, I would have loved to work with the Beatles.

Describe your daily routine.
I wake up early, 11:30-12:00, I jump out of bed, I start writing a little bit in my journal about my dreams. I try to do this thing called morning pages where you write down like 3 pages free hand and just drain all my stupid thoughts and subconscious and babbles that’s in my brain and I just let it all go in the morning. Then I do a little bit of yoga and meditation, I do some pull-ups, I walk around the block while listening to the Rocky theme and punching the air on the street and I’m just shouting things to myself. I come home, take a shower, I put on my clothes, start warming up my voice and then I go to the studio and work.

Would you say you’re romantic?
I’m a hopeless romantic, it’s kinda sad actually because my heart gets torn out of my chest every time I meet a girl pretty much. I’m just so sensitive and I feel girls want guys to be jerks and I just won’t do it! I can’t be fake and be a jerk about it! I love my mother, I respect women, I was taught to just really love and respect women I can’t just turn it off! So I’m just waiting for the girl to respond in the best way.

Describe yourself in 3 words.
Rock. Stud. Charming.

What are your passions and concerns for the world?
That’s a beautiful question. My passions for the world are just to help people. I want to see the world become a better place. I wake up all the time and I just feel so good about things and I have all this hope. And then I look at the world and it’s so sad. I want to make a lot of money and eventually donate millions of dollars to a third world country where millions of American dollars would be equivalent to much more there. Have a whole rehabilitation program there or something very creative to allow people to evolve faster pretty much. Like get them on the same level as the rest of the planet. I think we all need to care for our brothers and our sisters. We’re all just one big family. Colour and race does not separate us. I just want to see the world become a better place for my kids. Also the environmental issues. It’s crazy! We live in a world where we have to do something and we have to fix it! We have to become aware and make our friends know, our age and younger. We have to say, look the world is kinda in a mess and we have to fix it and do everything we can.

What do you look for in a girl?
Down to earth, connected to God, connected to herself, funny, beautiful, passionate about art and music, and just all about having fun.

If you could do anything for one day, what would you do?
I would go to India and go to the Himalayan Mountains and meet a great spiritual master and get blessings from him.

What’s been the hardest thing to do in your life?
My music. I kept getting rejected. I swear every record company has rejected me at least twice! But I just kept going and I didn’t give up. My mum always said, don’t give up Justin, you’re great, never give up, just keep going. And you know what, I got an independent record label and I have distribution and putting it out. I’m really excited! My dream is coming true and amidst all the big obstacles and big challenges, I’ve come through on the other side.

If you could change something about your life, what would it be?
I wouldn’t change anything! I love my life and I believe everything is the way it is because there’s a divine purpose in it and these are my challenges in it and tests. I just need to be strong and believe that everything will be fine.

Tell me random facts about you.
I’m a vegetarian.
I love animals.
I talk to angels.
I love human beings.
I want the world to become a better place.
I’m a channel for music, the angels of music speak through me.
