Would you care to introduce yourself?
My name is Monet Monico. I am 16 years old and I’m a singer/actress.
What got you into acting/singing?
When I was little, I started doing musicals at my church and it came from there. When I was 11, I’d write songs and do small perfomances. My mum made me go to this guy Dennis and I recorded my first CD as an R’n’B style. I kept song-writing and then it just turned into my love for rock and roll music. Acting just bloomed from my singing, because I loved musicals.
Which did you do first, acting or singing?
A mixture of both because I did musical theatre.
Since you have experienced both areas, which do you prefer and why?
Both because in singing I can express my feelings and thoughts to the world and touch people with my voice. With acting I can play different roles and get into peoples’ heads and be a different person for a while which is cool.
What are your inspirations when you work?
For singing it’s definitely stuff that has happened in my life. Song writing is so much fun because you can take any situation and turn it into a song. I love to sing because I was born to sing. All the situations in life and I really want to reach my music to people and I want to inspire people. For acting, just to tell a story because when you’re little and you pretend to be a cowboy or an Indian. Acting is like that, telling a story which is my inspiration because I can tell a story by just being a character.
What are the ups and downs of the business in your opinion?
Well the ups are getting a job and when you write a good song. The downs are not achieving an audition you want, getting rejected by people you think liked you and not getting your big break. But you get over that. The ups overpower the downs though.
Why do you think people should listen to your music?
I write music and songs to have people relate to them because all my songs are real situations that have happened in my life. I think that people should listen to my music if they want to have fun, let go, sing along and really relate. I think that’s cool.
What are your hopes for 2007?
My hopes are to make it more than I have. I have been blessed with being pretty successful but my goal is to become over-successful. Totally blown up and have my album recorded and released and be in a future movie. I definitely want to tour, especially to Greece!
Who are your role models and why?
My mum definitely because she’s been there for me since the beginning and she does everything for me, which is really cool. She’s there for me, always happy and she always helps me. My mum is definitely the core of my career. For singing, definitely Gwen Stefani especially in her no doubt phase because she had the best voice and style and everything! For acting, there are so many but I really like Natalie Portman for Garden State and Reese Witherspoon because she’s so cute and funny! I love Sweet Home Alabama!
Do you have any passions/concerns for the world?
I definitely have passions for little kids that have nothing. I went to Mexico and helped build houses for these orphan children. I love playing with them and helping them! They’re so sweet! And also, I went to the children’s hospital, where I sang for them and played guitar. I also go and feed the homeless in LA.
