So introduce yourselves guys!
Hello we are Prevalence...
So how did you guys meet?
(Jamie) We met indirectly...Jim and John were in a band called Superhinge with a few other guys. When I (Jamie) came back from living in San Diego CA, where I lived for a few years, I joined the band as the pianist. That was going pretty good until we started to have some problems with the bass player and guitarist. We eventually fired them and I started to play the bass. We needed a guitar player and Johnny always talked about this guitarist Don from his hometown who he said is nasty. We all agreed to ask him to come down sometime to jam and see how things go. So he came in one night to practice and right away we all knew that the 4 people in the room were the people in the band. From that point on its been going beyond good and we have no plans of changing a thing
Prevalence is a very original name. How did you pick it?
(DON) By definition the word Prevalence means ; widespread; of wide extent or occurrence; in general use or acceptance. We feel that our love for music and our songs will be accepted and widespread (prevalent) in the general public. We hope anyway and we liked the name.
What type of music would you classify yourselves as?
(JOHN) I don't think we classify ourselves in any one genre. We'd like to think we have a little bit of everything or a taste of all our influences. But lets just say we had to say one genre....Rock I guess.
Who plays what?
Jim Corbett-VOCALS
Don Philippe- GUITAR/VOX
Jamie Doherty-BASS/VOX
John Olivera-DRUMS
Why should people listen to your music?
(JIM) We hope that our music makes people feel good. Over the past 10 years or so it seems that music has been a little sad and depressing. Our music is the opposite. Plus, the lyrics should have meaning to alot of people. Jim writes about relationships and life experiences that most people, at one point or another, have gone through.
Who are your musical influences?
Incubus, Tool, The Beatles, The Toadies, Pink Floyd, Chevelle, Taproot, Silver Chair, Bob Marley, and many many more. We could go on for days. We love all kinds of music.
What was your first gig like?
(JIM) I think it went well...I was pretty drunk at the time. I guess it went good because they asked us to play again. There may be a video or something laying around you can watch..
Have you ever messed up on stage?
(JAMIE) There was a show we played in Worcester MA that we played very sloppy. We got to the venue around 6:00pm for sound check and didn't go on stage until Midnight. Lets just say we were intoxicated by 12:00 am. We decided from that point on we would never drink that much before we go on stage again. Drinking after the show is a way different story but never again will we play drunk haha.
Where do you yourselves in 3 years?
(JOHN) In 3 years we see ourselves on a black tour bus and in some city far away.
Why music? Why choose music as a career? What does music have that other things don’t?
(JIM) There is nothing in world I’d rather do than play music with my friends. I think I would loose my mind if I had to sit at a desk all day. Entertaining people and making music is the reason why I was put on this earth.
Do you guys have any back ups, in case your music doesn’t work out?
(JAMIE) We all hope to not have a back-up plan but yeah we all have a career in other fields. Jim is in Construction, Don is in Law Enforcement, Jamie works as a Financial Advisor, and John works as a mason for the biggest concrete company in New England.
What’s the best and worst thing about the business you’re in?
(DON) The best thing about the music business right now for us is playing live. I'm sure down the road it will get better and the answer to this question will be a little different but I think playing live will always be our favorite thing to do.
Do you have an EP or where can people listen/buy your music?
(DON) As of right now the only way to hear us is myspace and the Internet. We are recording at Soundmine Studios in PA with producer Dan Malsch on our debut album which should hit the airwaves sometime in the fall but the Internet is the only way to hear us at this point.
And now…some random questions for fans to get to know you better!
Describe the other guys in 3 words.
Asshole, Cool, Talented...haha
What’s the craziest thing you’ve ever done?
When I was around 18 or 19 me and Jamie after long night of boozin on vacation in NH were walking home when we came across a tractor at the end of a long dirt road. We decided after seeing that the keys were in the ignition that we should probably take it for a quick spin. So we drove it down a residential neighbor hood at 6:00am. I think one of the neighbors must of called the cops because we saw one about a football field away with his lights on and yelling over the squad PA "SHUT IT DOWN!!". So we pull along the side of the road trying to ditch the tractor and forgot to put the break on. The thing rolled down the rest of the F-IN road and down a hill into a small pond made by one of the neighbors!! Because this happened so close to where we were staying me and Jamie ran through the woods to get away. They never found out who did it.
If you could go anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?
(John) I would do anything to tour Japan. I heard the fans are crazy and the country is beautiful.
