Hey! Can you please introduce yourself?
My name is Ryan Malgarini, and I just turned 15. I like long walks on the beach and getting caught in the rain. (j/k.)
What got you into acting?
I saw my grandmother on a TV commercial and I thought it was the weirdest thing in the world, because she was also sitting right next to me while I was watching it. I was only five at the time.
What’s the best freebie you've ever gotten?
One time I went to a Tony Hawk fundraising event and they had this wheel of fortune with different prizes like at a carnival. Usually they give away things like paperweights or guitar picks—something cheap—but this one had all these amazing prizes. I got a new skateboard, shoes, videogames, autographs, you name it.
What are your hopes for 2007?
That our troops start coming back from Iraq, that people start taking global warming seriously. Oh, and I wouldn’t mind landing a really big part this year.
Who are your role models and why?
I admire Elvis Presley for his talent and the way he changed music history. He never let anyone tell him what to do; he was unique and his own person.
What are you passions/concerns for the world?
Acting is my passion, and my concerns are the same as what I said my hopes are for 2007.
Describe yourself in 3 words
Spontaneous. Personable. Goofball.
You've met a lot of cool people through your line of work. Out of all of them, who are your top ones and why?
Jamie Lee Curtis was an inspiration. She’s a great actress and a great person. She’s raised two kids and also finds time to write children’s books. And she still sends me Christmas cards!
Project related questions:
How to Eat Fried Worms:
Best moment:
At the end of filming one day, we all pushed the director Bob Dolman into the swimming hole. He was fully clothed, by the way.
Worst Moment:
Wrapping and saying goodbye to all these new friends I had made.
Embarrassing Moment:
Well, it wasn’t nearly as embarrassing for me as it was for my friend (and co-star) Austin Rogers, but he was trying to fake throwing up for a scene by drinking pea soup, and he accidentally vomited for real. We all got a little sick from watching that, but they ended up using the take.
Weird Moment:
One night, we were sitting around one of the hotel rooms where the cast was staying. It was really late, and one of the doors opened up by itself, and we could all swear something strange out of the corner of our eyes just ran past. Not that I believe in ghosts or anything. ?
Fave co-actor:
Austin Rogers, who I still see often and kick it with.
Freaky Friday:
Best Moment: When I first got the news that I got the part of Harry.
Worst Moment: Jamie Lee Curtis bought a ping pong table for the cast and crew. There was a tournament one day, and I got to the finals, but ended up losing to Jamie. Maybe next time.
Embarrassing Moment: During shooting one of the scenes, my pants fell down in front the cast and crew.
Weird Moment: It was weird and cool when I first found myself actually working with people I had seen on TV and in movies.
Fave co-actor: Jamie Lee Curtis.
Which character have you played that is the most like you and how?
Benjy in How to Eat Fried Worms was a lot like me. I’m a little hyper myself, I have a little French in me, and I love to cook my own creations…but not any with worms in them.
What’s the funniest thing that has happened on set?
In one scene in How to Eat Fried Worms, Billy (Luke Benward) accidentally ate the “Greasy Brown Toad Bloater Special,” when he was just supposed to fake it. It was disgusting, and he immediately spit it out, and some of it landed on Adam Hicks’s face. They used that take in the movie too.
What was your first filming like?
I worked for a day with Kevin Spacey on my first movie, The United States of Leland. He was really focused and distant at first because that was his character, but after scene was completed, he was very personable.
Do you learn lines quickly?
Yes, I’m told I have a photographic memory, for what it’s worth.
If you could do anything for one day, what would it be?
Fly like Superman.
What was your favourite movie/TV show to film and why?
The pilot for “Lost in Space” was fun, because I got to do a lot stunt work in a science fiction show set in outer space. I also worked with a great director, John Woo, and a pretty great cast.

Have you kept in contact with other actors from your movies?
I hear from Jamie every once in a while. I’m still friends with most of the cast from How to Eat Fried Worms, especially Austin who I see all the time.
Are you home schooled?
I am in a charter school that allows me to take time off for auditions and do a lot of my work from home.
Describe your daily routine.
Sleep, school, swim, study, sleep, computer, sleep, and occasionally eat.
If you could change something about your life, what would you change?
I wouldn’t mind being a foot taller.
What has been the toughest thing to do in your life? \ Getting rejected from some parts that I really wanted, but I usually take it pretty well.
What’s the nicest thing a fan has said to you?
This one girl said that I had inspired her to become an actress. I was very touched.
What do you look for in a girl?
Smart, funny, nice, good smile, not too full of herself. And willing to split the bill. ?
If you could be a super hero, who would you be?
Spider-Man, no doubt.
Describe the craziest thing you’ve done!
I once swigged down a shot of pure lemon juice from a shot glass. It was a bet with some of the cast and crew from “Lost in Space” one night when we were having dinner. I ended up winning $100!
How do you balance your career and your normal life?
Lots of good friends and family around to help me keep it real and remember where I started out.
What are your hobbies?
Swimming, videogames, singing, playing the guitar, writing my own songs on my Mac Book.
