Entry #7 Classification: "Superman" Fan Fiction "It was Never Meant to Be" Written by: Arshi
I can't believe this is actually happening! Finally, Superman is marrying me! I take a moment to remember everything. The bridesmaids- Lana, Lucy, Chloe, Wonder Woman, and those other female superheroes with the tight tights and teeny-tiny outfits- all dressed in... puke green. Who made that decision? I looked down to remember my own outfit. EEEEEEEEEEEEw. It's puke green too. This had to be my mum's choice. I looked out in the crowd to see my mother and father. Where were they? There were only superheroes there. Batman, the Flash, Green Lantern, the Martian guy, another Flash, another Flash, another Flash, another Green Lantern, and a whole lot of superheroes that nobody really knows. Where were my friends? Where was my family? Where was Jimmy, Clark, and Perry White? They were Superman's friends too. I looked around the church but we weren't in a church. Where were we. I looked out the window and saw... the Earth. Oh my god, we're in the Justice League headquarters on the moon. I looked over at Superman. He grinned at me. "It's okay Lois. You can take your time," Superman reassured me. I took a deep breath and said 'I do'. They all stared at me. I said it again. Why couldn't I hear myself say it? I said it again. Oh crap, I just lost my voice. Superman stared at me kind of annoyed. He started tapping his feet. I said it again but no voice came out. Maybe this was a sign. Maybe we were never meant to be. "That's it Lois. I am out of here," "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!" I screamed. I realized with a jolt that I was in my office at the Daily Planet- not on the moon. "Huh? Are you feeling alright?" I looked up and saw Clark Kent standing in front of me. "Uh... yea. Yes, I am fine," I said as I wiped beads of sweat off my forehead. Clark smiled uncertainly at me, "As I said. I'm finished my article so I am out of here." I nodded as I brushed my hair off my face. I stared at the computer before me. Oh crap, I still had to write my whole article and I only had one hour before the building closed. Clark packed his things and started to put on his jacket. "You're leaving?" I asked him. He stopped putting on his jacket and smiled at me. "Yup," he said, "You need help finishing, right?" I didn't want to admit it but that was true. I nodded slowly. Clark laughed as he put his stuff down and brought a chair beside me. "So what is it about?" he asked. I hated having him look at my face with such intent. It was like he was looking through me, noticing my lies, seeing how I really feel. I handed him the pictures Jimmy took of the plane crash so he would understand. Why wasn't I talking? I hummed a little to make sure I still had my voice. Clark looked through the pictures, "You're writing about the plane crash in Smallville?" I nodded again. "This should be an easy article for you. Superman was there," Clark teased me. I glared at him with anger. "Why weren't you able to write it?" he asked me. "Uhm, well, you see, what happened was... uh... I was on this web magazine for teenagers called Portrait. It's really addicting," I said. I hoped Clark wouldn't laugh at me for being on a teenage website. Clark started laughing, "Yeah, I went on there a few times too," he said. "Okay so, let's get started on this article," Clark pulled the computer keyboard close to him and reached over me for the mouse. For the first time ever I noticed how strong he was. Did he work out? I would never imagine. Maybe it was the farm work from when he was younger or maybe it was football. Yeah, I think that's it. I remember him telling me that he was on the football team in high school. I felt uncomfortable for a second and I moved over a bit. Clark coughed and fixed his glasses. "Uhm, thanks for helping me out," I said. "It's no problem. I would do anything for you, Lois. I mean," he looked away as he noticed what he said was awkward, "I would do anything for Jimmy or Perry too.... because you're my friends and that's what friends do. So I am helping you because we are friends and that's what friends do and could I be excused for a moment?" he got up abruptly and left. Where was he going? I remembered when I though Clark was Superman. I laughed. How could a man who can't even talk properly be such a heroic person? If this had happened a while ago, I swear, I would've followed Clark to see whether he was whizzing off as Superman to save somebody. I sat there tapping my pencil replaying the thought of Clark as Superman in my head. If you thought about it, a person like Clark Kent would be the perfect secret identity for Superman. Nobody would ever even think about it. I got up from my chair and faced the door Clark had gone through. Maybe, just maybe.... I walked over and opened the door. It was a storage closet. I walked inside and I saw Clark sitting there breathing into a brown bag. I knew it was too good to be true. Clark could never be someone like Superman. "I'm sorry," I said in an evidently disappointed voice. "Me too, Lois. I have to go," Clark said as he got up to leave. "Where?" I asked him curiously. "Uh, well, uhm, I just remembered that my friend from high school, Pete Ross, came to Metropolis for a few days. I have a dinner with him and his girlfriend today. So I have to go," he said to be as he got out of the closet. I walked after him. "Do you have a date?" I asked him. I sounded like a jealous girlfriend. "No," Clark said in an uncomfortable voice. He walked to the main door to go out. I ran quickly and blocked his path. "Why don't I be your date?" I suggested to him calmly as if I was suggesting him to use a pen. He frowned and awkwardly pulled his glasses up his nose, "Actually, I don't think I would want to take you because we are friends. You would have a better time at dinner with Superman anyways," Clark said as he indicated with his hands for me to move over. I moved over and stopped the tears from coming to my eyes. How could I go out with Superman if someone like Clark Kent rejected me? Clark walked out and turned around, "Sorry Lois. Good luck with you article. Bye," he smiled as he left. I walked back sadly to my computer. This was my destiny- spending Saturday nights alone writing about my love saving the lives people he doesn't even know. I burst into tears. I wonder if Superman was out having a nice time right now. I looked out the window and saw his silhouette flying outside. I wiped my tears and crouched over the keyboard to write my article. I looked over at the clock. I had 20 minutes left. I was running out of time. THE END.
