The Jonas Brothers: A little bit longer
Review by Terran

The Jonas Brothers have done it again. Though this time just a little bit differently. With the release of their latest album, A Little Bit Longer, those crazy Jonas-Hanson comparisons have seemed to come to a halt. The new album shows some serious maturity from the boys. Not only in their music, but in their voices, as well.

The CD starts off with the power pop tune ‘BB Good’ that always seems to stay stuck in your head. From there it goes on to the first single off the album, ‘Burnin’ Up,’ which won Teen Choice Awards’ Choice Summer Song.

The brothers have moved on from silly songs about time travel or a whale in a pool with their mother, but ‘Video Girl’s’ amiable lyrics about shallow wannabes and ‘Lovebug’s’ sweet acoustic sounds keep that lightheartedness alive.

‘Can’t Have You’ and ‘Sorry’ are those power ballads with full-on emotion choruses that make you understand how the boys must have been feeling when they wrote the songs. Although, they do sound slightly like something you would find off of the most recent Backstreet Boys’ album.

‘Got Me Goin’ Crazy,’ ‘Shelf,’ and ‘Tonight’ could have come from their self-titled sophomore album, and ‘Pushin’ Me Away’ is slightly too repetitive for my taste but still has a decent rock beat throughout the song. ‘One Man Show’ is an independence anthem that will have you rockin’ out with your air guitar.

The album finishes off with the title song, ‘A Little Bit Longer.’ This is quite the serious song about Nick’s struggle with diabetes, but staying strong throughout it all.

Even though their lyrics could still use a little maturing, the mix of ballads and pop-rock tracks create an album that’s not much like any other. You may even want to buy two copies to get the bonus tracks ‘Hello Goodbye’ (from the Target commercials) and ‘Live to Party’ (found on Walmart copies). Overall, the Jonas Brothers have released another album that will make this next year for them something to remember.

BB Good
- Funny lines: (I think you and me Would be a great Cou-ple) (I dont wanna hurt you I wanna KISS you!) About an insecurity of getting into another relationship. Gets stuck in your head easily.

Burnin’ Up:
The first single off the album. Perfect summer track. Fun dance song.

Shelf:
Typical JB song. Back to those Jonas “La’s” they use so often. Failed love with a girl who wasn’t a good girlfriend.

One Man Show:
Independence song. Breakup. Shows off Nick’s voice.

Lovebug:
Stands out. Sounds like it was taken right from the recording studio. Fun percussion instead of the typical guitars and drums. Very cute lyrics. Fallen in love again without expecting it. Last chorus goes into rock out, full emotion. One of my favorites

Tonight:
Almost like a surrender to trying to work out problems, until end. Fast dance beats. A little bit of techno/electronica sounds

Can’t Have You:
Would sound like a typical boy band song, but they put their special JB touch to it. Apology song. Seriously missing that girl! One of my personal favorites.

Video Girl:
An ex-girlfriend who was only in the relationship for their fame. Very stuck up. Miley? Learned from her devious ways. New disease: video girl syndrome.

Pushin Me Away:
Not a fan of Joe’s low notes. I'm not letting go “Not”. We get it, she’s pushing you away.

Sorry:
Self blame song for not being there for the girl. A song you would hear in the background of a breakup scene in a movie. Backstreet Boys

Got Me Goin’ Crazy:
Typical “crazy for a girl” song.

ALBL: Nick’s diabetes.
Live version is much better.

Hello Goodbye:
Acceptable cover of a Beatles song. Best version I’ve heard out of all the different Target commercials.

Live to Party:
Eh. Kinda of a cheesy party song. Not that original, but still a fun song to dance along to. Good pool party song.

The most touching and talented set of songs I've heard so far from the JBs. I truly loved each and every song on that album!
The song "a little bit longer" makes me cry every time I hear it! You can tell it's very well written and Nick's voice is so and tear-jerking!! He really made us feel his pain! - Fan review
