Chris Cornell: Scream
Review by Chrissy

When Chris Cornell announced his plans on his 3rd solo record, his long time fans were shocked and disappointed - The grunge icon and grammy winner , who has been in the music industry for about 20 years now, revealed that he had been producing a new album with #1 hit producer Timbaland.

It took almost one year until the 13-track album "Scream" was released. Cornell compares his 3rd solo work to Pink Floyd's "The Dark Side of the Moon" and Queen's "A Night at the Opera", because there aren't any breaks between the songs. Every song leads into the next one.

"Scream" is now available through Amazon and ITunes.

"Part of me" was the first single released in Europe for the album in 2009. The music video for "Part of me" features cameo appearances from box legend Wladimir Klitscho and rapper Method Man. The song is embedded in a heavy repeating beat and the chorus repeats a bit too often.

"Time" is a good song to listen to when you are running out of time cause it motivates you to run faster with its fast chorus.

"Sweet Revenge" is by far the only song on the album that isn't good. This song has nothing to do with Cornell and it's too Timbaland. Chris Cornell's voice sounds like he wouldn't hit any note. Nothing in this song could be called "sweet" besides the song title.

"Get up" reminds of Nelly Furtado's and Timbalands song "Promiscuous". The song is about someone whos life is wasted and he/she should do something more in his/her life.

"Ground Zero" is named after the "Ground Zero" in New York. The song is about war and the feelings you get when everything falls apart. The song starts with a nice drum rythm and ends into "Never far away" with a beautiful transition. "Ground Zero" is featured in ABC's US version of "Life on Mars".

"Never far away" is one of the most beautiful love songs i've ever heard. Cornell's words go right inside your heart and they're going to stay there forever.

"You are the cause to keep my head up high. I'll never say goodbye. You gotta know, i'll stay besde you right till the day I die".

"Take me alive" features background vocals from the lovely Justin Timberlake. It has a really good beat and doesn't even sound like a Timbaland production. Definitly a potential hit.

"Long gone" was the first song to be released as a digital single. A music video with a new rock mix by Howard Benson was released on Yahoo a few weeks ago. The video features an appearance from his cute daughter Toni. The Timbaland Mix is beautiful but the Howard Benson Remix is definitly a reason why Cornell should re-record "Scream" in a rock version.

"Scream" is about the situation when you are in a fight with someone you love and you can't stand the fight anymore. The song was released as a digital single in 2008 and reached #79 in Canada. A music video for Scream was released in December on Yahoo! Music.

"Enemy" is propably one of the best songs on the whole album. The lyrics are great and the beat and melody goes right into your head and you want to start dancing. Radio Stations in the States started playing "Enemy" - so this might be his next single.

"Other Side of Town" is about a guy who met a girl and thinks it was a mistake but as soon as she's gone he realizes that he misses her. It's a very cool song to listen to when you are in a train and want to relax.

"Climbing up the Walls" has a nice "real" beat - it doesn't sound like it was made from a machine. The whole song sounds like it was made on big drums and you wanna go inside the song and play the drums too. The chorus is really easy and you won't have any problems to sing to it at the next karaoke party.

"Watch out" is the last song on "Scream" and one of the wildest. Cornell is almost yelling the words "Pick it up - Pick it up - Watch out now - pick it up". There's a hidden track called "Two Drink Minimum" at the end of Watch out. The song starts about 30 seconds later when Watch out is over. "Two Drink Minimum" is played on a guitar and sounds a bit like an old blues song.

"Scream" is Chris Cornell's 15th album and was released through Interscope Records on March 10.
