Selena Gomez: Kiss & Tell

As I started listening to the tracks of her disc, I realized that a lot of my comments for the songs are the same. Rather than have you read me repeating myself for each selection, I figured a summary would be better. There is just way too much of the auto-tune going on in Selena’s music. Her voice sounds overly manufactured on more than half the tracks, and when her real sound is actually allowed to shine through, her real voice sounds thin in comparison.
A lot of the tracks have the same vibe to them as well. I know that Selena said she wanted to make sure the disc was fun and something you could move to, but the whole album is nothing but dance tracks. I’d really like to see what Selena could do with something slower paced. I find myself torn on how I feel about her lyrics as well. While some of them are clever, many of the songs, like “Falling Down” really on clichés to fuel them. I don’t genuinely like any of the songs as much as I thought I would.
All of my criticism aside, if you enjoyed her single, you will enjoy the rest of the album. The music’s sound, if not her voice, is consistent. There is a definite style. And, if you’re looking for something to dance to, the music is fun, if not of the highest quality. I think with more work, Selena will only improve in the future. I look forward to seeing what kind of music she decides to put out her next time in the studio.
Selena Gomez: Kiss & Tell
Review by Ana
Why should every Disney starlet release an album? Some people just shouldn't sing, and Selena Gomez is one of them.
Sure, she's a great actress, but that doesn’t make her a singer.
Kiss and Tell is Selena's debut album which shows she has great writers but no vocal abilities. With songs like her debut single "Falling Down" she proves that Disney has her back with really talented musicians and song writers but even great lyrics can’t make an album complete if the vocals aren’t good or clearly fixed by a computer. (You can totally tell they did that because of her DWTS performance!)
But overall it's a good album that will make Tweens sing in their bedrooms at the top of their lungs!
"Kiss & Tell"
- The first song of the album, a guitar-driven fun pop song that talks about, well, kissing and telling. Everyone can relate to this since we've all been backstabbed once by our so called BFF. The only song I've heard like this is Thank you by Simple Plan so two thumbs up for originality. And another two thumbs up for the great music, even if it's not a dance track it makes me move my feet and want to dance through the entire song!

"I Wont Apologize"
- If you weren't sure that Selena was a Disney girl, this song makes it clear. The never ending "I’m just gonna be me and no one else" theme we hear in songs from Disney starlets like Ashley Tisdale (Overrated), Vanessa Hudgens (Promise), and Demi Lovato (Believe in Me). This is probably the album failure, and though Selena wrote this is really boring to hear this song. After the first chorus it has a "heard it before" vibe that makes me wanna listen something else. Plus, the obvious computer generated singing makes it worse.
Rating: 5/10
"Falling Down"
- A brilliantly written song that combines awesome music makes the lead single the best track of the album!
After months of waiting to see what Selena was gonna sound like, it was great to see that it was unlike any other Disney princess, the downside again is her lack of singing abilities.
Even if this song is only relatable to people in the business, it is great and catchy.

"I Promise You"
- The first love song of the album, and it's not cheesy. With a catchy tune and clever lyrics, this song makes me wanna dedicate it to my boyfriend.
Young love is often a theme for every singer but no one has made such a great job mixing great music and lyrics. "I promise you we're gonna make it" lyrics that may only appeal to girls but that is good enough to make us sigh a time or two.
Rating: 10/10
"Crush"
- The "I don’t need you at all even though I totally loved you 2 minutes ago" song. It's OK but not the best of the album.
There's not really much to say about this song but you can really rock out to it if you just broke up with your boyfriend and that Gomez's best vocal job in this song is when she stops singing to speak instead.
Rating: 7/10
"Naturally"
- This is actually a great song that talks about how dating someone comes naturally, not like a forced relationship. The rhythm is different from any song of the album and the lyrics make me wanna sing all day this song. It's a catchy song that would make a terrific second single!
Rating: 9/10
"The Way I Loved You"
- At first I thought, Is she really covering a Taylor Swift song. This ballad is nothing like Swift's song.
Both have great lyrics but this one is better. The only thing that makes me mad is that such a great song was sang by someone who clearly won’t make it justice while singing live!
Everyone who's ever broken up with someone will love this song and will probably sing it over and over again until they realize there's someone better down the road.
Rating:10/10
"More"
- This song is not that good, I actually forgot about it until I looked again at the tracklist. It could've been axed from the album and it wouldn't really hurt the final product.
It really is a senseless song with poor lyrics but good music. And again computers made most of the job.
Rating: 6/10
"As a Blonde"
- This song's lyrics are really good. They show how a small change can make a girl's self-esteem reach new heights.
But now the computer makes Selena sound like a bad version of Taylor Momsen's vocals.
Rating: 8/10
"I Don’t Miss You At All"
- Witty, Fun, Bubbly. How many good things can I say about this song?
It's a good rebound song and the music really supports the amazing lyrics! It sounds like something that Kelly Clarkson might sing, and she should have!
Rating: 9/10
"Stop And Erase"
- Haters look out! There's about to be a tween revolution thanks to this song!
"I’m gonna wipe that smile of your know it all face" That may be a song dedicated to celebrity blogger, Perez Hilton, It's an empowering song that makes sense. Everyone who's ever been knocked down by a rumour can relate to this.
Rating: 9/10
"I Got You"
- Kinda reminds me of a young Hilary Duff, probably because of the bubblegum chorus.
The poor vocals make the song kind of boring after the second verse. It's not a great song but it's not exactly terrible either.
Rating: 7/10
"Tell Me Something I Don’t Know"
- Even if the previous version was better (of course im talking about the music, the lyrics is exactly the same). This song is great!
A great song that makes us believe we can do anything and that we shouldn’t listen to people that want to bring us down.
